Spider-Man Is Officially Not Marvel’s Strongest Web-Slinger Anymore

Spider-Man has fought alongside powerful magic users, literal deities, and even the unstoppable force that is the Incredible Hulk, yet his own strength isn’t to be taken lightly. In his many years, Peter Parker has accomplished some remarkable feats, from famously holding back a train to keeping the entire Daily Bugle building from crashing onto the street below. Still, he’s not the most powerful Spider ever introduced. Spider-Man 2099, Miguel O’Hara, and the Scarlet Spider, Kaine Parker, have each given him a run for his money, and alternate universe Peters, like Cosmic Spider-Man, blow him out of the water. In the confines of Earth-616, however, there’s one web-slinger that the former Green Goblin, Norman Osborn, thinks may be the strongest of them all — Spider-Girl, aka Maka Akana.

The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity series by Jordan Morris and Joe Kelly has seen Norman and Spider-Woman take a bevy of Spiders — including Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, Araña, Silk, Spider-Boy, and Spider-Girl — under their wing to prepare them for the next great threat, including the return of the Goblin. To ensure the young heroes are ready, Osborn puts them through a rigorous curriculum designed to bolster their teamwork and prepare them for web-slinging when the stakes are highest. However, his methods were a little shady, to say the least. He hired several weaker villains off the streets to attack the campus and his students, giving them a real sense of danger. Thanks to their powers, though, he was always certain the Spiders could handle it, particularly Spider-Girl, who, thanks to her mutant abilities, can temporarily copy the powers of anyone she makes eye contact with.

What Norman didn’t plan for, however, was the intrusion of his old “friend,” Carnage. Not only did the violent symbiote find its way onto campus, but it also bonded with Maka, manipulating her innocence to its advantage. In reality, it was only using her to regain its strength and ultimately get back to Norman at the end of Issue #4, where the headmaster sacrifices himself to get the symbiote away from the young girl. Doing so unleashed the Red Goblin, one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous foes who has previously been capable of taking down Peter Parker, Venom, and even the Human Torch, but he’s not prepared for a Spider-Girl with a new form just for the occasion.

Your MCU Hero Is…

Based on your answers, the Marvel hero who matches your spirit, values, and instincts has been revealed.

Queens, New York

🕷️ Spider-Man

You carry the weight of the world on shoulders that are younger than they should have to be — funny, loyal, and endlessly self-sacrificing.

  • You do the right thing not because it’s easy, but because no one else will.
  • You understand that responsibility isn’t a burden you choose — it’s one that finds you.
  • Whether it’s a neighbourhood mugging or a multiverse crisis, you show up.
  • Peter Parker’s lesson — that great power demands great responsibility — isn’t a slogan to you. It’s the code you live by, even when it costs you everything.

Hell’s Kitchen, New York

😈 Daredevil

You fight in the shadows between law and chaos, guided by a fierce moral compass that refuses to let the guilty walk free.

  • You use every tool available — your mind, your body, your faith — to protect those the system overlooks.
  • You’ve looked into the darkness and chosen not to become it, though the line has never been easy.
  • Matt Murdock’s duality — champion in the courtroom, devil in the alley — mirrors your own.
  • Relentless, conflicted, and unwilling to stop. That is exactly you.

Stark Industries, Malibu

🤖 Iron Man

Brilliant, driven, and occasionally insufferable — but always the person who solves the unsolvable problem.

  • You lead with your mind and back it up with resources, innovation, and a stubbornness that borders on heroic.
  • You started out looking out for yourself, but somewhere along the way the world became your responsibility.
  • Tony Stark’s arc — from ego to sacrifice — is your arc too.
  • You build, you plan, and when the moment comes, you’re willing to give everything. Because in the end, you’re Iron Man.

New York City

💀 The Punisher

You’ve been through fire that would break most people — and it did change you, completely. What’s left is unyielding, relentless, and operating by a code forged in grief.

  • You don’t ask for forgiveness, and you don’t expect gratitude.
  • You see a corrupt, broken world and you’ve decided to do something about it, consequences be damned.
  • Frank Castle’s war is born from love twisted by loss — and so is yours.
  • Uncompromising and unflinching — the world may not agree with your methods, but your conviction is absolute.

Asgard · Protector of the Nine Realms

⚡ Thor

Powerful, proud, and on a lifelong journey to become worthy of the legend you carry.

  • You lead with strength but have learned — sometimes painfully — that true greatness comes from humility and growth.
  • You’re larger than life, yet more vulnerable than you let on.
  • Thor’s story is one of transformation: from arrogant prince to worthy king, from isolated warrior to beloved protector.
  • You bring the storm when it’s needed — and the warmth when it matters just as much.

Brooklyn, New York · The Avengers

🛡️ Captain America

You believe in something bigger than yourself — and you fight for it even when the world has moved on and nobody else will.

  • You don’t bully the small guy, and you never stop when it gets hard.
  • Steve Rogers didn’t become a hero when he got the serum — he was always one. So were you.
  • Your strength isn’t in your fists; it’s in your refusal to compromise what’s right, no matter the cost.
  • In a world full of people taking the easy road, you’re the one who picks up the shield and stands up — every single time.

Spoiler below for The Amazing Spider-Man: Spider-Versity #5.

Maka Akana Takes on the Red Goblin to Conclude ‘Spider-Versity’

The fifth and final issue of the Marvel Comics miniseries has just been released and sees the Spider-students rushing to fight the Red Goblin. Despite having two adults with experience in Jessica Drew and Cindy Moon and some creative ideas from the others, nothing seems to faze the fusion of Carnage and Goblin. That is, until Spider-Girl appears, recovered from her bonding with the symbiote, to stare evil in the eye. Making eye contact with the Goblin instantly turns Maka into a Goblin herself, complete with all of Carnage’s abilities as well. In her new form, she swiftly pummels Norman into submission and even has the extraterrestrial terrified by what she’s capable of.

What was poised as a major threat for the Spiders is ended with almost comedic ease, demonstrating how powerful Maka can be when she copies the right target. Spider-Woman even has to stop her beatdown before it goes too far and Norman gets hurt. The former Goblin clocked her limitless potential from day one, and with more training and experience, she may become one of the greatest defenders New York has to offer. After the battle, Marvel sets the stage for a bright future not just for her, but all the Spiders when they make amends with Norman for his actions and get back to training under his guidance, this time without any underhanded tactics. As part of establishing that trust, he even makes the Spiders equal partners in owning the Spider-Versity building, making it a haven for young heroes to team up when needed or brush up on their skills with Coach Goblin. Though their story is over for now, the miniseries will feed back into the mainline Amazing Spider-Man comics as the series approaches issue #1000.
