Southampton and Royal Antwerp have announced the death of former academy player Victor Udoh at 21, describing a sudden loss and offering condolences to his family as he moved from Antwerp to Southampton and then on to Czech side Ceske Budejovice.
By the time the news reached the clubs he had passed through, the football world had already begun to do what it does in grief: post tributes, share memories, and hold a quiet line for a player who was still only 21.
Southampton announced the death of former academy player Victor Udoh at the age of 21. Udoh spent six months in Saints’ academy from February 2025, featuring in eight games for their under-21 side in Premier League 2.
Southampton’s statement on X came with blunt grief: “We are devastated by the tragic passing of former player Victor Udoh at the age of 21.” The club added: “The thoughts of everyone at the club go out to Victor’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.”
The young winger’s route to England began in Belgium. Before his move to the south coast. Udoh was at Royal Antwerp’s academy and made 28 appearances in their first team. He joined Antwerp’s academy in 2023. played 27 times for their ‘Young Reds’ team. scoring 12 goals. and went on to make his first team debut in the same season.
After leaving Southampton in September, Udoh joined Czech second tier side Ceske Budejovice, continuing the path that brought him across borders in search of a breakthrough.
Royal Antwerp also confirmed the death. posting: “With great dismay. RAFC has learned of the passing of former player Victor Udoh.” Their message continued with the same focus on the people left behind: “Our thoughts are with Victor’s family. friends. and loved ones. We wish them much strength, support, and warmth during this particularly difficult time.”.
Across Antwerp’s ‘Young Reds’ goals. Southampton’s under-21 appearances. and the next step in Czech football. Udoh’s career was still in motion.
