South Surrey Athletic Park prepares for a full day of provincial rugby action as local clubs compete for seven championship titles this Saturday.
There’s going to be a whole lot of rugby to watch Saturday in South Surrey, where the province’s best senior clubs will come together to compete for provincial titles.. Bayside Sharks RFC is the host club for the all-day event, which will feature B.C.’s top men’s and women’s rugby squads in seven provincial finals on fields 1 and 2 at South Surrey Athletic Park (14600 20 Ave.).. In addition to championship rugby, there’ll be food
trucks — including Triple O’s — as well as three different bars throughout the site, including the Bayside clubhouse, for attendees who are 19 or older.. With about 3,000 people expected to attend, the event will feature high-energy crowds and a festival-style atmosphere as well as the championship matches.. “It’s a fantastic day out … it’s family-friendly — it’s a crazy fun day,” said BC Rugby’s director of marketing and partnerships Rob Bartlett, who noted
attendees will receive wristbands with their ticket purchase that allow them to roam the entire venue.. “The headline games are our premier league matches, which are women’s premier league and men’s premier league, and then we have men’s and women’s division one, men’s and women’s division two, and men’s division three as well.. So we’ve got … I think it’s 14 teams from 10 clubs.” The championships mark the culmination of the senior club rugby
2025-2026 season, which runs from September through May across the province.. The BC Rugby men’s premier league final will be contested by UBC Old Boy Ravens and UVIC Vikes, with the winners getting to hoist the historic Rounsefell Cup.. The women’s premier league final will see defending champions Vancouver Thunderbirds once again face Victoria-based Westshore RFC, where the result will decide if the Gordon Harris Memorial Cup be staying on the Lower Mainland or heading
across the Georgia Strait.. The Kamloops Raiders RFC, Kelowna Crows RFC, Capilano RFC and the Vancouver Rowing Club will also vie for two different championships..
