A half-dozen centenarians who call Whitecliff Retirement Residence home have been celebrated as ‘Legends Among Us.’ “This is an extremely rare occurrence, and one of highest respect to trail-blazers & mentors who have paved life as we know today – raised families, carved careers, adapted to technology, political & economic climates, travel and life paths,” Whitecliff lifestyle consultant Sandra Barr tells Peace Arch News in an email. Held May 20 at the 15501 16 Ave. residence, the celebration included stories of resilience, perseverance and milestones,
as well as the presentation of a certificate from King Charles III and a Key to Surrey achievement medal by Mayor Brenda Locke. Words of wisdom shared by the recipients included “be kind to others” and “treasure your family and loved ones.” Barr described the occasion as “momentus,” and reflective of the Whitecliff community. “You will find great kindness and inspiration here,” she writes.

Idk why but this made me tear up a little. 100 years is insane. Also “be kind to others” like… we should already know that lol.
Wait so Mayor Brenda Locke gave them a medal and a key?? Kinda sounds like a movie prop. I’m not saying it’s bad, just confused how that works like is it official or just a photo op. King Charles certificate seems like it would’ve been done by the feds or something.
Good for them but I swear I read somewhere the King thing was like optional for events now? Or maybe that’s for Britain only. Either way, I love the idea of celebrating the people who lived through everything. My grandma would’ve loved this, especially the part about adapting to technology… because she acted like phones were witchcraft.
