South Kingstown police say no confirmed shooter at South County Hospital

South County Hospital was put on lockdown Monday afternoon after a reported active shooter incident, according to South Kingstown police.

Police said there was no confirmed shooter, as well as no identified victims.

Incoming patients were being diverted to other facilities.

“We are aware of a reported threat involving our hospital. The hospital is currently under lockdown as a precaution while law enforcement and emergency response partners assess the situation on site. The safety of our patients, visitors, and staff is our highest priority. We will provide updates when appropriate. We ask the public and media to rely on official hospital and public-safety communications and not to share unverified information,” the hospital said in a statement.

South Kingstown police said they were investigating the scene. They urged the public to steer clear of South County Hospital while they investigate.
