Soap Opera Star Don Diamont Makes Rare Comments About 16-Year Age-Gap Relationship With Gloria Loring When He Was In His Early 20s
Don Diamont is reflecting on his 16-year age-gap relationship with Gloria Loring.
The 63-year-old daytime star stopped by the Soapy podcast with hosts Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart for the August 18 episode and shared what it was like being with the actress and singer during their shared time together on The Days of Our Lives.
Don played Carlo Forenza and Gloria played Liz Chandler. Later, Don would go on to star in other soap operas like The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, on which he currently stars as Bill Spencer Jr.
Don shared what his relationship was like with Gloria’s sons
At the time, Don was only in his early 20s and Gloria was separated from now ex-husband Alan Thicke, with whom she shares two sons: Brennan and Robin Thicke.
“I met Gloria Loring [on Days of Our Lives], and Gloria and I got involved, and that was actually a really positive, wonderful thing to come out of it,” Don said.
Despite being only about 22 or 23, Don said he felt comfortable taking on a supportive role in the boys’ lives back then, crediting his own “really good dad” for the confidence, adding that he became a positive figure in their lives.
“So I wasn’t entirely — it wasn’t really uncomfortable for me. And I was there for them. Robin and Brennan,” he said, careful not to disparage Alan either, who had a skyrocketing career thanks to his starring role on Growing Pains.
Don mentioned that due to “the nature of his job, what was going on at that time,” he had a reduced presence at home.
He recently reunited with Robin Thicke
The soap star also shared that he was pleasantly surprised to learn that Robin mentioned him during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show, saying he cherished a time when Don would play basketball with him during a pivotal time in his childhood.
On the podcast, Don shared that he and Robin actually had a sweet reunion not long ago when they happened to run into each other at Nobu in Malibu. Don was there with his wife, Cindy Ambuehl, and several of his children. He said Robin recognized him right away!
