SMU football quarterback Kevin Jennings added a memorable celebration to the No. 19 Mustangs’ 27-24 road win over Florida State, performing the Seminoles’ signature tomahawk chop after throwing a go-ahead fourth-quarter touchdown Monday night.
Jennings found Yannick Smith for a 79-yard score with 12:37 remaining, giving SMU a 24-17 lead at Doak Campbell Stadium. The fifth-year senior then raised his arm and performed the chop on Florida State’s home field.

Jennings turned in a productive performance throughout SMU’s 2026 ACC opener, completing 26 of 36 passes for 430 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also added 33 rushing yards as the Mustangs opened conference play with a road victory.
The Dallas native threw his other touchdown passes to Jalen Cooper for 50 yards and Randy Pittman Jr. for 10 yards. Smith’s 79-yard score gave SMU its fourth-quarter advantage, but Florida State responded.
Seminoles quarterback Ashton Daniels connected with Samuel Singleton Jr. for a 39-yard touchdown with 8:17 remaining, tying the game at 24-24 and setting up a tense finish.
SMU eventually worked back into scoring position late. Kicker Nick Reed converted a 20-yard field goal with 21 seconds remaining, giving the Mustangs a 27-24 advantage they held through the final possession.
The victory capped a chaotic night in Tallahassee after a transformer failure and power outage delayed kickoff nearly two hours and forced the teams to begin under limited stadium conditions.
SMU improved to 1-0 overall and 1-0 in ACC play, while Florida State dropped to 1-1 and 0-1 in conference action.
