No surprise here: Skylar Diggins is out for the remainder of the 2026 season, the Sky announced Tuesday.
The Sky were eliminated from the playoffs and have only four games remaining, leaving little incentive for the veteran guard to return.
The Sky’s statement said that they want to “prioritize Skylar’s long-term health after collaboration and communication with Skylar and her team, Sky doctors, and the organization’s medical staff.”
Diggins had not played since early July, when she posted on Instagram about being moved to the bench. Coach Tyler Marsh described it as a “coach’s decision.”
Diggins expressed disappointment about the communication and resources from the organization, and said then that she had been playing through knee pain resulting from a procedure in October.
“I’ve been sacrificing my body for this team,” she said. “Maybe it’s time to take a step back and see what’s going on to see if I need to continue to make those sacrifices without having the proper resources to play at an elite level.”
Diggins has been rehabbing the injury ever since. She also said more recently that she’d had productive conversations with Marsh and wanted to contribute to winning basketball.
“We’re in full support of Skylar and want to make sure we are steadfastly prioritizing her health,” general manager Jeff Pagliocca said. “Skylar made a strong effort to get back to the court this season. She’s been in constant communication with us through the entire process.”
Diggins is signed to an $1.86 million deal through 2027.
