Six Arrested in Irvine Burglaries, Including Four Minors

For the third month in a row, Irvine homeowners had reason to feel unsettled about the safety of their own doors—until Thursday afternoon, when police announced arrests they say link six suspects, including four minors, to at least 10 residential burglaries over the past year.

Irvine police said the group includes two adults, a 32-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, plus four juveniles—three male and one female minor. The minors were not named because of their ages. The adults were identified as Andres Zarate and Darlyn Alejandra Acosta Serrano.

Zarate and Acosta Serrano were booked Tuesday on burglary and conspiracy charges, according to Ziggy Azarcon, Irvine police public information officer. Zarate is being held at Santa Ana’s Intake Release Center, according to inmate records; the location of the other five suspects was not available.

All six suspects are expected to face the next step in the process in Orange County Superior Court. Zarate and Acosta Serrano are due back in court on Friday. Information on the status of the minors was not provided.

Police Chief Michael Kent said the arrests came from a major investigative effort aimed at stopping crime in the city. “We are dedicated to the safety of our community,” Kent said in a statement. “This successful investigation sends a clear message to all that crime will not be tolerated here. We have the technology. resources. and expertise to find those who commit crimes in Irvine and ensure that they are held accountable.”.

Azarcon said it’s still unclear whether the six suspects formed their own burglary ring or are part of a larger network. “There are a lot of people associated with this case. but we believe they are the main suspects responsible for these burglaries. ” Azarcon said. “It’s still a possibility there may be more.”.

Investigators also did not say whether the suspects are tied to the “burglary tourism” trend—where foreign nationals. particularly from South America. travel to the U.S. specifically to commit burglaries. Irvine police noted that suspects from Chile hit Pacific Palisades and East Hollywood in 2024. Separately, seven Colombians were arrested in Burbank in May 2025.

Detectives say the investigation began weeks ago, and the work is ongoing. Azarcon said detectives are analyzing evidence to determine whether the six are connected to additional crimes. “We are continuing an investigation,” he said, describing the effort as evidence-driven.

As authorities described the arrests, they pointed to locations across Southern California. Zarate was arrested at an apartment in Bellflower. Acosta Serrano and the female minor were arrested in a Huntington Beach apartment. The three remaining male juveniles were arrested in Los Angeles. Irvine police said detectives arrested all six.

Police said detectives used “extensive surveillance and evidence gathering” to lead them to the suspects.

The case leaves a key question hanging over the investigation: whether police have stopped the core group responsible for the homes hit in Irvine—or whether more people are already out there, connected to the same pattern, waiting for the next name to surface in the continuing inquiry.
