Simone Biles spent this week in bed, and on Saturday she finally let her followers see just how frightening it was.
Posting to Instagram Stories, the Olympic gymnast shared a photo of herself wearing multiple hospital bracelets. In the caption, she wrote that she “almost” died during a recent medical emergency earlier in the week, adding that the experience was among the scariest of her life.
“I’m not one to normally share things like this because I value privacy in today’s age,” Biles wrote. “But almost dying wasn’t on my bingo card earlier this week. This was one of, if not the, scariest experience of my life.”
What made the ordeal especially tense, she said, was that her NFL husband, Jonathan Owens, was out of town. Owens was away for Indianapolis Colts preseason “practices” during the entire incident.
Biles did not spell out what happened or what the emergency involved. She said she planned to explain more at some point, but for now she’s focusing on rest.
“I’ve been in bed resting this week. I’ll explain sooner or later, but [shout out] to my close circle who reached out, checked in, visited or sent flowers, Love y’all,” she wrote.
In a follow-up post, Biles shared another photo from bed along with a screenshot showing her current resting heart rate on a monitor. The posts offered a stark snapshot of the situation she says she’s still recovering from—quietly, privately, and with one clear message: she’s grateful to be okay.
At the moment, the details of the emergency remain undisclosed. But her update made one thing unmistakably clear—this wasn’t a scare she took lightly, and she’s still taking time to heal.
