Thursday afternoon at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, a tense hospital scene unfolded after Simi Valley officers arrived with a suspect already detained on suspicion of an earlier violent crime.

The shooting happened inside the medical center, authorities said, shortly after an altercation broke out. Officers responded to the incident at about 12:20 p.m., when one of the officers fired after the suspect became involved in a confrontation with hospital staff.

Police later described the incident as occurring inside the hospital, with the shooting taking place on the fourth floor. A source familiar with the event said the suspect grabbed a medical staffer, and law enforcement sources said the suspect was wounded by the gunfire.

The suspect had been involved in an incident in Simi Valley, authorities said, and was transported to the Thousand Oaks hospital for treatment. After the arrival, the situation escalated—turning a controlled transport into a sudden use-of-force incident.

The shooting set off what authorities described as a massive law enforcement response at the facility at 215 W. Janss Road, drawing heightened police presence to the hospital grounds while patients and visitors remained inside.

Afterward, Los Robles officials said staff, patients and visitors were safe and that medical care was not interrupted. For the hospital community, the message was immediate: even as police activity surged inside and around the building, care continued uninterrupted.
