Siân Brooke joins Undeclared War’s second series

Blue Lights’ favourite Siân Brooke is set to star in a gripping new series very soon. The Undeclared War first aired back in 2024 and followed a leading team of analysts in GCHQ. Set in the run-up to a British general election in a post-pandemic 2024, the team had to secretly work together to ward off a series of cyber-attacks on the UK during the election. Now, it’s been confirmed another series is in the works as Simon Pegg reprises his role as Danny Patrick,
with Siân joining as his character’s wife, Barbara, an analyst and ex-MI16 person. Speaking about her role on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch with Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, the actress teased: “They both work within this agency, but because of the nature of their jobs, obviously, it’s highly confidential, they can’t go home and talk about what they do, they cannot do that. “It’s this thing called compartment, within the series, we find out there is a mole in the midst of this agency, and
then the finger is pointed at everybody. It puts stress and pressure on everyone’s relationships.” Tim questioned whether there are some people who have this job in real life who have similar situations where they aren’t allowed to speak about their roles with their partner, as Siân confirmed. She replied: “Oh yeah! We chatted with people who work within this sector, I couldn’t possibly tell you their name or who they are or anything like that. “You’re not allowed to, it’s highly confidential, the data
that you’re dealing with. I’d be awful, I’d be absolutely awful at it!” Detailing more about the series, Siân had nothing but praise as she said: “It’s a brilliant, clever, very timely piece, I think. It’s very current, I think the way the world is at the moment, global relations, it’s a very turbulent place and I have to profess I am an absolute tech luddite! “I’m aware that the world is changing in terms of warfare. It is a different game now. It’s very
much like a country can be brought down to its knees by a touch of a button, by an invisible wall. “This explores what that is, I, myself. It was an education as well in terms of how plausible these situations are and how scary it is. “I think because it happens somewhere in there ether, I don’t think we really comprehend exactly the damage that can be done. With very clever writers and a brilliant director, it’s a piece with twists and turns.” The
synopsis for season 2 reads: “Set in 2024, The Undeclared War returns with a fresh wave of tension and drama as the elite Malware Department at GCHQ grapples with the aftermath of a devastating Russian cyber-attack. Just when it seems the UK has gained the upper hand, Danny and the team uncover a far more dangerous threat.” Series one of The Undeclared War is available to watch on Channel 4.
