Sheehy Says Iran Wants Americans “Wiped Off” Map

When Sen. Tim Sheehy walked through the logic of the U.S. effort to negotiate with Iran, his message landed like a warning, not a prayer.

On Monday, the Republican senator said he is not optimistic that the Trump administration’s peace-deal talks with Iran will produce anything substantial. He tied that lack of faith to what he described as Iran’s core intent—murdering Americans “no matter what” the theocratic regime says publicly.

Sheehy shared his assessment during an interview on Fox & Friends. He said he hopes the deal talks spearheaded by Vice President JD Vance will succeed, but added that “the rational part of his brain” tells him there is “no chance it works out.”

“We are dealing with a regime that will not negotiate in good faith. They want you and I dead and all of us to be gone,” Sheehy said. He then described the timing he believes Iran seeks for that outcome.

“And they don’t want that to happen with the snap of a finger — they want it to happen like October 7th, times a million,” Sheehy said.

He was referring to the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel in 2023, when about 1,200 people were murdered and hundreds of hostages were taken to Gaza.

Later in the interview, Sheehy told co-host Brian Kilmeade, “They want us to be wiped off the map.”

The senator’s remarks came not long after Vance said the U.S. made major progress toward a lasting deal with Iran during a summit in Switzerland over the weekend.

On Monday, Vance said: “This is probably what we’re most excited about as Americans.” He added that “the Iranians have agreed to invite IAEA inspectors back into their country.”

Vance called it “a major milestone for the American people. ” and said it was “the first step in permanently denuclearizing or permanently ending a nuclear weapons program in Iran. And that’s exactly what we wanted to do. That’s exactly what we asked to happen.” He also described the day as “a very, very good day.”.

Sheehy said he saluted President Donald Trump for attacking Iran and for his administration now working to make a deal. But he argued that any agreement Iran may ultimately support is meant less to resolve the threat than to manage it.

He said he believes Iran is trying to “buy time” with whatever deal emerges, and that the country would pursue a nuclear weapon again once Trump is out of office.

The exchange left two competing visions in sharp relief: Vance portraying renewed access for IAEA inspectors as a meaningful step toward denuclearization, and Sheehy insisting Iran’s intent is far darker—and that negotiations are simply a pause before a return to danger.

  1. So Vance is negotiating but Sheehy’s like yeah nah it won’t work. Maybe they’re just setting up an excuse for bombing later? idk.

  2. I don’t get the whole October 7 times a million thing. Like Iran wants that because of Hamas? seems weird to compare it like that, but maybe I’m missing the point. Either way, if they keep talking deals and no trust, what’s the point.

  3. This feels like politicians yelling the same fear-mongering every time. October 7th was Israel/Hamas, not even Iran, so why is Iran getting blamed for the timing? Also “peace-deal” like… do they really think negotiations stop nukes? seems backwards to me.
