Severe Storms Threat Returns Wednesday Across Tri-State

Wednesday is another First Alert Weather Day for the Tri-State, with widespread rain on the morning commute and storms that could turn severe. A Flood Advisory is in effect, and damaging winds plus flash flooding remain the main concerns.

When the rain started around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, it set the tone for a day drivers will feel in their bones—slow visibility, slick roads, and a forecast that keeps turning toward storms.

Wednesday has been flagged as another First Alert Weather Day due to widespread rain affecting driving conditions, along with storms that could develop severe impacts. A Slight Risk—2 out of 5—has been placed across the Tri-State.

The FOX19 NOW Weather Team says the severe weather threats aren’t all the same kind, but they could all matter. Damaging winds are listed as the primary concern, alongside flash flooding and isolated severe threats.

A Flood Advisory has been issued for the highlighted area on the map. The concern there is straightforward: slow runoff can lead to ponding on roads and minor flooding in low-lying areas. The message is to use caution on the roads as the ground stays primed to hold water.

Heavy rain began around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, and the morning rain is expected to linger into the afternoon. The weather team expects showers to continue and potentially intensify at times—there may be a strong storm or two.

Flash flooding remains a major issue, especially because additional rainfall could fall on already-saturated ground. Hail or an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, though both are described as lower-end threats compared with wind damage and flooding risk.

Wednesday’s timing matters. A cold front moves into the Tri-State Wednesday morning, bringing showers that will affect the morning commute. Rain is expected to pick up around noon Wednesday morning, and showers are forecast to be steady throughout Wednesday afternoon.

After that, the outlook shifts. Thursday is expected to be drier and more comfortable temperature-wise, with highs reaching the mid-to-upper 60s.

Friday brings storms back in a different shape: scattered storms return, and highs are expected to warm into the 70s.

The day’s weather doesn’t just ask people to watch the sky—it asks them to adjust their routine. Keep an umbrella with you during the morning commute on Wednesday.

For Friday through Sunday, the instruction is clear: monitor forecasts closely for additional rain impacts and potential flooding concerns.

There’s a window of relief in the forecast—Thursday’s drier stretch—but it’s brief. After a wet start and a storm-leaning afternoon. the Tri-State will need to treat Wednesday’s rain and wind threat as real. not passing. Then it can breathe a little on Thursday, before storms and flooding concerns return again later in the week.
