Seven films vanish from Netflix this June

By the time June fully kicks in, a handful of movies will quietly vanish from Netflix—no big announcements, just watchlists getting slimmer by the day.

For viewers. it’s a familiar rhythm: one more weekend to squeeze in a favorite. one more evening to finally start that franchise everyone’s been talking about. This month’s lineup is a mix of blockbuster spectacle. high-profile dramas. and crowd-pleasing crowd-pleasers. each with a clear “leaving” date attached.

“Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” (2018) leaves June 1. The film is part of the Jurassic revival that followed “Jurassic World. ” a direct sequel set 22 years after the events of the 1993 original. starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as part of a brand-new cast. “Fallen Kingdom” arrived a few years later as the trilogy’s second installment, earning more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It also became known for its massive production cost. with a reported budget of around $465 million—placing it among the most expensive movies ever produced. alongside “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”.

“The Iron Claw” (2023) is leaving June 19. Directed and written by Sean Durkin. the film tells the true story of the Von Erich family. described as one of professional wrestling’s most legendary dynasties. Set during the rise of wrestling culture in the 1980s. it follows brothers Kevin (Zac Efron). Kerry (Jeremy Allen White). and David (Harris Dickinson) as they navigate fame. impossible expectations. and personal tragedy under their demanding father. Fritz Von Erich (Holt McCallany). A former wrestler himself, Fritz pushed his sons from an early age to reach championship glory he never achieved.

Critics and audiences largely lined up behind the emotional storytelling, with “The Iron Claw” holding an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” (2015) leaves June 1. Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and based on E. L. James’ bestselling novel, the film stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan as Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey. Their story follows Anastasia. a shy college student. as she’s pulled into Christian’s carefully controlled world—where their relationship turns into a mix of attraction. vulnerability. and emotional turmoil. The movie was produced on a reported budget of $40 million and went on to gross roughly $570 million worldwide. While critics largely rejected the film, audiences embraced it, launching a trilogy. “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” were filmed back-to-back and released in 2017 and 2018. All three films are leaving Netflix next month.

“Ray” (2004) also leaves June 1. Directed by Taylor Hackford. the film stars Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles. alongside Kerry Washington. Clifton Powell. Harry Lennix. and Terrence Howard. Spanning roughly 30 years of Charles’ life. it tracks his rise from poverty and childhood hardship to becoming one of the most influential musicians of all time. while also exploring darker chapters including struggles with addiction. complicated relationships. and personal sacrifices. The film was a critical and commercial success, earning more than $124 million worldwide against a $40 million budget. Foxx’s performance earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor at the 77th Oscars. “Ray” received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, and won for Best Sound Mixing.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” and “Ray” are just part of the wider Netflix sweep this June—alongside “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” and “The Iron Claw.” Together, they mark a month where viewers can’t just rely on “later,” because the calendar is doing the booking.

Other titles departing this month include “The Expendables” (2010), leaving June 20. Directed by and starring Sylvester Stallone. it brings together an action-heavy roster that includes Jason Statham. Jet Li. Terry Crews. and appearances from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis. Stallone plays Barney Ross. leading a group of elite mercenaries known as the Expendables on a mission to overthrow a ruthless dictator on a small island in South America. What begins as a routine operation spirals into something far more personal and deadly. forcing the team into an explosive battle for survival. The film’s reception from critics was mixed. but it was a major commercial success—grossing over $274 million worldwide against a budget of around $80 million.

Also leaving June 20 is “The Expendables. ” and the rest of the list keeps moving through the month: “A Lot like Love” (2005) leaves June 9. Directed by Nigel Cole. it stars Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet as Oliver and Emily. two people whose lives keep colliding over several years after meeting on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. Their connection endures through friendships. failed relationships. career struggles. and the recurring question of whether timing matters as much as chemistry.

Finally, “The Lego Movie” (2014) leaves June 1. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. the story follows Emmet. an ordinary construction worker voiced by Chris Pratt. who’s mistakenly believed to be “The Special. ” a prophesied hero destined to save the Lego universe. Emmet is pulled into a chaotic adventure with characters including Wildstyle (Elizabeth Banks). Batman (Will Arnett). and Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman). while trying to stop the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell) from freezing the world in place forever. The film was praised for its inventive animation style and an unexpectedly emotional story. becoming both a critical and commercial hit and launching a larger franchise with sequels and spin-offs focused on fan-favorite characters.

  2. Wait I thought Jurassic World was already off Netflix like last year. Maybe they’re moving it to Hulu? Also Fifty Shades being gone makes sense bc Netflix been acting weird with that stuff.

  3. I hate this. One day it’s there, next day it’s “quietly vanished” like okay cool love that for me. June 1 is super soon though, so unless you marathon it the night before you miss it. And it’s never the big announcement version either, just watchlists getting emptier… my algorithm’s gonna start crying 😂
