See new Snoopy balloon ready for Macy’s Thanksgiving parade

Snoopy is having a moment and he’s bringing the coolest-kid-in-school energy to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade this November.

Macy’s announced on Sept. 15 that this year’s Peanuts character balloon will feature Joe Cool, Snoopy’s laid-back, student persona, and Woodstock. Holding a thumbs up, the Joe Cool balloon sports sunglasses and a red sweater bearing his name, holding Woodstock under his arm.

Joe Cool and Woodstock are part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 100th anniversary celebrations on Thursday, Nov. 26. The Peanuts have been floating in the parade since 1967 and Snoopy made his debut in 1968 as the World War I Flying Ace. Over the years, Snoopy has soared as an astronaut, ice skater, millennium reveler and Beagle Scout, according to a news release.

The announcement comes as Snoopy is proving to be a hot commodity.

On Sept. 15, Starbucks released a limited-edition Snoopy Glass Cold Cup. Inspired by the viral Bearista Cups from last year, the glass is shaped and painted like Snoopy wearing an orange beanie and green scarf. The $40 cup also comes with a green and white spiral straw with a Woodstock topper.

And if a slew of other Starbucks merchandise wasn’t enough, Snoopy has also inspired his own drink at the coffee shop chain: the Snoopy Cookie Frappuccino. The creme-based drink features vanilla bean and white mocha sauce, pumpkin spice cold foam and cookie crumbles on top.

Macy’s releases limited Snoopy collection

Ahead of the parade, Macy’s is releasing an exclusive Peanuts capsule collection, featuring brands like Timex, BaubleBar, Lenox, Loungefly, Super7 and Woobles. The collection is available on the Macy’s website and will be available in stores later this fall.

Special Peanuts exhibition opening in NYC

A new “Snoopy in Style NYC” exhibition, exploring Charles M. Schulz’ comic strips, is also open in New York City. Located at the Peanuts showroom in Manhattan (25 Little West 12th St.), the collection features one-of-a-kind Snoopy and Woodstock dolls dressed in custom designer creations, a gift shop and archival pieces from Schulz’ career. The free exhibition is open through Sept. 26.

Other new Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade Floats

As of Sept. 17, Macy’s has announced a few other new floats:

  • Tony Sarg’s Amazing Marionettes (Macy’s): Inspired by Tony Sarg’s flipping marionettes in the parade in the 1920s
  • Macy’s Parade All-Stars (Macy’s): Constellation of All-Stars from past parades, including Popeye, Olive Oyl, Sonic the Headhodge and Bullwinkle J. Moose
  • Hogwarts Holiday (HBO): Iconic Sorting Hat alongside the insignia of the four houses − Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin
