As the final three months of 2026 approach, retailers nationwide continue to expand, including Lowe’s.
The chain will open a new store next month in Walton, Kentucky, about 63 miles north of Lexington, the company said in a news release sent to USA TODAY. It’s the first new Lowe’s store in Kentucky since 2009 and the state’s 43rd location.
As of late September, Lowe’s has over 1,750 home improvement stores, 300,000 associates and the Walton location is hiring for more than 100 full and part-time positions, including cashiers and cart associates.
Lowe’s said in August that quarter three sales were $26 billion, compared to $24 billion last year. Comparable sales for the quarter went up 0.2% and there was a 15.7% increase in online sales, the company said.

Inside Lowe’s new location set to open in October
The Walton store, set to open on Oct. 30, will be nearly 95,000-square-foot store and is set to have a 30,000-square-foot outdoor garden area.
It will also be one of the first locations bearing the company’s new tool section. The section has an open layout, wider aisles and lower fixture heights that make it easier to find specific products.
The opening comes at a time where Walton’s county, Boone County, is growing, Lowe’s said. The county has grown 1.26% over the past year, according to the World Population Review and U.S. Census Bureau data.
“Lowe’s is helping them save time on estimating, quoting and sourcing materials with connected, tech-enabled tools,” the company said, noting its AI-powered Material Lists that converts handwritten notes, photos, spreadsheets and other files into orders.
The company’s new kitchen showroom has a larger selection of luxury appliances and kitchen products and Lowe’s plans to include the redesign in all future openings. Some stores that are already open will get a redesigned kitchen showroom as well.
