Jon Hamm’s pregnant wife Anna Osceola showed off her baby bump for the first time during the 2026 Emmys.
Some baby names are popular across the United States, while others are favorites in select states.
In a new report published Sept. 15, BabyCenter revealed the most popular names by state, and while some names were common across the board, states like Louisiana, Nebraska and New Mexico had names that stood out from the rest.
“For some states, the top baby names are culturally significant, examples being Kehlani in Hawaii and Santiago in New Mexico,” BabyCenter baby name adviser Steph Coffield told USA TODAY. “For others, it’s more of a regional trend.”
Coffield said, “Southern states are known for honoring family members and tend to choose more traditional names, while the West Coast is known for being adventurous and leaning toward more uncommon options.”
The Midwest and East Coast, meanwhile, seem to “favor cutesy, old-fashioned baby names like Henry and Charlotte,” Coffield noted.
BabyCenter, which has published reports on baby names since 2004, said it “analyzed name data submitted by BabyCenter app users for babies born between July 2025 and December 2026” for the recent report.
In cases of a tie between multiple names, “positions were determined alphabetically”; meanwhile, for regions with “insufficient internal user data,” the “most recent dataset from the Social Security Administration was used,” BabyCenter said.

Social Security Administration’s top baby names of 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) also released its list of top baby names of 2025 on Mother’s Day earlier this year.
“The baby names are drawn from Social Security card applications submitted at birth,” said the SSA, which has compiled the list of popular names since 1997. Parents and users can search the agency’s full database to see name popularity by year, dating back to 1880, and state.
