Lexington police kept searching Monday behind Lowe’s Home Improvement, but the focus wasn’t on finding something—at least not yet. The goal, investigators said, was to eliminate one more place where Elena Katherine Moore might have been.
Moore, 39, of Lexington, was last seen on June 11 and reported missing the next day. Police describe her as 5′7″ and 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She reportedly frequents the Planet Fitness at 560 Whiteford Way. and the investigation found that she signed in at that location on June 11 at 6:40 p.m.
Police said Moore was later last seen walking away from that Planet Fitness. heading toward the wooded area behind Lowe’s Home Improvement. She was wearing an olive green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. A photo appearing to show Moore at the Planet Fitness was released by police earlier. and another image from the Planet Fitness was also released on Monday.
As of Monday, no further contact had been reported. Lexington police said the presence of first responders behind Lowe’s Home Improvement was “not a recovery operation,” but a precise effort to rule out “one less place Ms. Moore could be.” Police also said no trace of Moore was found in the area.
LPD Investigator Missy Silcox told WIS that Moore’s husband was the one who reported her missing. As of Monday evening. Silcox said police do not yet suspect foul play. and they do not believe Moore is in imminent danger. She added that police believe Moore did have a phone with her, but that it was not pinging on Monday.
Then the footage shifted the timeline again.
Tuesday brought more details: recently obtained camera footage from the Lexington Police Department shows Moore walking through the Publix parking lot at 100 Old Cherokee Road on Thursday. June 11. The surveillance captured her walking in the direction of Old Cherokee Road at 9:17 p.m. still in the olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants. Police also said photos were captured on a front-door camera a week before Moore was reported missing.
The search continues without any confirmed trace of where Moore went after she left the Planet Fitness area. With her phone not pinging on Monday, investigators are leaning on the movement they can verify—one location at a time.
