Search underway after chase hits State Police cruiser

driver remains – Police searched Friday for a driver who led officers on a chase through Everett, Malden, and Stoneham, striking a State Police cruiser and fleeing on foot after abandoning the vehicle. Authorities say no injuries were reported.

A driver who authorities say led police on a chase through multiple Massachusetts communities is still at large after abandoning the vehicle in Stoneham, and a search is underway for him.

The incident began Friday morning after Malden police were alerted by other law enforcement agencies that officers were pursuing a vehicle driven by someone with multiple outstanding arrest warrants. Malden officers responded to Main Street and Bickford Road, where they attempted to stop the car.

Police said the driver tried to flee and struck an unmarked State Police cruiser during the pursuit. A uniformed Malden police officer who exited his cruiser to help was nearly hit by the fleeing vehicle, authorities said. No injuries were reported.

“At this time, there is no information to suggest an ongoing threat to public safety. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact law enforcement,” Malden police said in a social media post.

The vehicle was later found abandoned on Lindenwood Road in Stoneham. Officials said the driver and at least one passenger ran on foot, and police K-9 units searched the area where the car was left. The investigation remains active.

Authorities also said the suspect was wanted in connection with a drug investigation. WCVB reported that the suspect was wanted on several outstanding drug warrants and had allegedly removed an electronic monitoring bracelet before fleeing when officers approached.

After the chase, the driver remains at large, with police continuing to search for him in Stoneham.

  1. Sounds like one of those “multiple warrants” situations again. So did the cruiser get hit or was it like a near miss? Either way glad nobody was hurt.

  2. Wait he hit the State Police cruiser and then ran… but “no injuries reported.” That’s crazy. Also I swear if they had a better stop earlier in Malden this wouldn’t have gone through Everett and Stoneham. And those K-9 searches are always scary. I heard he had a bracelet thing so maybe he wasn’t actually allowed to be out? Not sure.

  3. Stoneham really gets the weirdest stuff lately. Electronic monitoring bracelet… so like he just ripped it off and dipped? I don’t get how people still do that like they can’t just track him forever. Also K-9 units searching where the car was left sounds like they’re just guessing. I hope they catch him fast because “no ongoing threat” is what they always say while he’s still out.
