Manchester police announced that a 32-year-old man was taken into custody after the alleged shooting of two Manchester Department of Public Works workers. Police said the men were walking around 9:20 a.m. Thursday when a man—someone known to one of them—approached. Authorities allege the suspect fired one shot from a handgun, hitting both workers.
The employees, whose names were not released, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Police said both were treated at a hospital and later released.
Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Sean Day. He was arrested at a business in Manchester and charged with two counts of first-degree assault. Police said the crime does not appear to be random and that there is believed to be no threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing.
Mayor Jay Ruais said he had spoken with both victims and expressed gratitude that they were recovering. “My prayers remain with all affected by this senseless crime,” Ruais said. “This was a despicable act, and I hope justice is served quickly.”
