Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba proved anew why he is considered the top player at his position.
The Seattle Seahawks started slowly against the New England Patriots at Lumen Field on Wednesday, but they made the plays that mattered most, leading to a hard-earned win, 13-10.
The Seahawks bucked the early exit of Sam Darnold, who suffered a hip injury in the first quarter, to start their title defense on a positive note.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba made one of the biggest plays after scoring a 45-yard touchdown on fourth down in the fourth quarter. Jason Myers followed it up with a kick to tie the count, 10-10.
Smith-Njigba had eight receptions for 122 yards.
The 24-year-old star is the reigning Offensive Player of the Year, and his electric play only reaffirmed his crown.

The defense was also key for the Seahawks, intercepting Drake Maye thrice in the fourth quarter, including the game-saving pick by Josh Jobe with 21 seconds left.
Smith-Njigba touted their resolve in crunch time.
“We knew coming in that it was going to be a four-quarter game, and that’s who we are. We’re going to fight. We knew it’s going to be a dogfight, and we love it. Whatever it looks like in the first half, second quarter, we’re going to make it right,” said the two-time Pro Bowler in a report from the Associated Press.
The Seahawks will go up against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 2.
