After making one of the plays of the game to take down the Patriots, Seahawks CB Josh Jobe’s interception mindset couldn’t be any simpler.
After watching star players AJ Brown and Sam Darnold exit the game early for their respective teams, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye found himself in a position most young football fans could only dream of: driving in the fourth quarter, down three with the game on the line in a Super Bowl rematch.
Locked in after watching two of his previous second-half drives end in interceptions, Maye was moving the ball well, hitting Mack Hollins and Hunter Henry for big receptions, but after milking the clock down to just 26 seconds on 3rd-and-5, disaster struck when Maye threw a very questionable ball from Seattle’s 16 and watched it land in the hands of Seattle Seahawks cornerback Josh Jobe, who took it down in the end zone for a touchback.
Understandably asked what went through his mind as that ball went through the air and landed in his hands instead of Hollins, Jobe revealed his ball-hawking mentality, which might just go down as the best quote of the NFL season so far.
“I just looked for the ball, found the ball,” Jobe noted. “My mind was on the ball, ball, ball, ball. Get ball, get ball. See ball, get ball.”
Initially joining the Philadelphia Eagles as a UDFA out of Alabama, Jobe landed in Seattle in 2024 as a member of their practice squad. While it took him a bit to see the field, he eventually stole Riq Woolen’s starting spot opposite Devon Witherspoon and never gave it back, recording seven tackles in the Super Bowl before inking a three-year, $24 million contract extension back in March. If his play against the Patriots in Week 1 is of any indication, that number may soon look like a bargain, as when you have that “ball, ball, ball” mentality, good things tend to happen.
