Saoirse Ronan Is ‘Dead Serious’ About Playing a James Bond Villain Amid Husband Jack Lowden’s 007 Rumors

Saoirse Ronan really wants to play a villain in the James Bond universe.

She made the comments to Empire in an interview that was published on Monday (August 24), and they come amid rumors that her husband Jack Lowden is being discussed as a possible successor to Daniel Craig in the spy franchise, though nothing has been announced yet.

“I want to go dark. I said that I wanted to be a Bond villain and I’m dead serious,” the Little Women star said.

She shared her specific vision during an interview with Vanity Fair back in 2024, revealing she wants to play someone who doesn’t just fall for Bond. Saoirse says she wants her villain to have her own agenda and present a genuine challenge.

“But that is what I do like about something like Bond in general, is that the characters are very interesting. And I do think there’s something kind of cool about having a female villain who wants to take him down and doesn’t just want to fall in love with him,” she said at the time.

Jack Lowden’s Bond rumors

It has been speculated that Jack Lowden is being eyed as the next James Bond. British television host Richard Oseman revealed on a podcast earlier this month that he heard Jack’s name in connection to the role.

Amazon MGM hasn’t announced its next bond yet, so for now it’s just a rumor. For now, all we know for sure is that Denis Villeneuve is directing the next Bond film and Steven Knight is writing it.

Saoirse and Jack met while making Mary Queen of Scots and they married in 2024. The couple also welcomed their first child last year.
