Samsung Health’s June 8 update makes Watch a coach

For a long time, wearables have mostly watched. They logged your heart rate, counted your steps, and waited for you to decide what it all meant.
On June 8, Samsung wants its Galaxy Watch to do the interpreting—and then nudge you when something looks off.
The South Korean company is rolling out a major Samsung Health update that will debut alongside its next Galaxy Watch. The pitch is clear: turn the watch into a proactive health companion that actively reads your biometric data and tells you what to do with it.
The biggest change lands in a new Vitals feature. Each morning, Vitals analyzes five overnight bio-signals: heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen levels. It then compares what it sees to your personal baseline. Samsung says you’ll get a notification when something is meaningfully off—so the watch won’t buzz you every time your heart rate “blinks the wrong way.”.
Samsung is also reshaping how it summarizes longer-term heart-related health. It’s replacing its existing Vascular Load feature with a new Heart Health Score. Instead of asking you to piece together sleep. stress. activity. and body composition data yourself. Samsung is combining those inputs into a single daily metric—designed to reflect long-term heart health with one number.
For people who actually train, the update leans into workout guidance. Daily Cardio Load tracks accumulated cardiovascular strain and recommends how hard to push and when to rest. It’s paired with a Fitness Index that measures VO2 max and daily steps against peers. then identifies strengths and weaknesses and tailors fitness goals accordingly.
The update doesn’t stop with metrics. Samsung Health’s home screen is getting a cleaner layout built around five categories: Sleep, Activity, Nutrition, Mindfulness, and Vitals. Samsung’s daily wellness tips and Energy Score are also moved front and center.
There’s more, too. The update adds Hearing Health monitoring that tracks ambient noise levels throughout your day and provides personalized analytics aimed at helping protect your hearing.
Samsung says all of these features will be fully realized with its next generation of Galaxy Watches, which it says will be announced soon.

So it just tells you you’re dying in the morning now? Great.
Vitals feature comparing overnight stuff to a baseline… doesn’t that mean it’ll bug you if you sleep weird like once? My watch already sends too many alerts as it is.
I don’t get the Heart Health Score replacing Vascular Load. Like are they just renaming it so it sounds better? Also “skin temperature” and “blood oxygen” from a watch feels kinda sus.
This is basically the watch becoming your coach right. But if it’s using VO2 max and daily steps against peers then it’s gonna shame people who work nights or don’t have the same baseline life. Also “meaningfully off” sounds vague, so it’ll probably notify you anyway. Hearing health monitoring with ambient noise… cool but I feel like it’ll miss stuff, like if you’re in traffic the whole time. Idk I’m not paying for more metrics to interpret. Yet.
