On September 30, 2026, a simple habit many people rely on—syncing photos from Samsung Gallery straight into OneDrive—will stop working.

Microsoft’s support page now spells out the cutoff: you’ll lose the ability to sync your photos directly from the Gallery app to OneDrive on September 30. 2026. The change comes after months of uncertainty. Back in September last year. code spotted in a leaked One UI 8.5 build suggested Samsung Gallery would end support for OneDrive. Later, a screenshot from a leaked One UI 8.5 build led people to believe April 11, 2026, might be the deadline. That date didn’t hold. Now the end is officially pinned down.

The practical consequence is blunt. Microsoft says that after September 30, 2026, all photos stored in OneDrive will disappear from Samsung Gallery. The photos won’t vanish from Microsoft’s service. though: they’ll still exist and remain available on the OneDrive website. and they’ll still show up on devices where the OneDrive app is installed.

If you’re determined to keep backing up to Microsoft’s cloud, you’ll need to take a different route. Microsoft says you can continue backing up your photos to OneDrive, but you’ll have to update your camera roll settings and download the OneDrive app.

Microsoft’s instructions are straightforward, but they require attention—because they separate “Gallery is syncing automatically” from “you’ve set up backup the right way.”

Start by opening the OneDrive app. Log in with your Microsoft account if you’re not already signed in—this may be different from your Samsung account. In the app. tap your Account Profile in the top left. select Camera backup. and make sure the correct account is selected. Turn Camera backup on. If prompted, grant access to photos and videos.

Once those steps are done, Microsoft says new photos and videos should automatically upload again.

There’s a larger shift behind the scenes, too. As was learned last year, Samsung plans to replace OneDrive with its own cloud solution. For now. though. the immediate message for users is clear: if your photo routine is built around Samsung Gallery syncing to OneDrive. you’ll want to start preparing before September 30. 2026.
