Sambo’s family upset after murder suspect released

The family of 19-year-old Nhlamulo Sambo has expressed unhappiness at the release of a man who was arrested in connection with his killing in Mossel Bay, Western Cape. The 23-year-old man was released on Friday after the local magistrate’s court struck his case off the roll due to insufficient evidence. Last weekend, violence saw more than 50 shacks torched, hundreds displaced, and two Mozambican nationals killed. Sambo and another teenager were confronted after allegedly looting a shack; an altercation followed, and Sambo was fatally stabbed.
He will be buried in his home village in Dzingidzingi near Giyani, Limpopo. The bereaved family’s Spokesperson Solly Mashele says, “We were not informed by the police about the decision of the court to release the suspect. We just found out on the media”.
