Sal’s Pizza turns Storrowing into an apology

A Sal’s Pizza truck became wedged under an overpass on Storow Drive, prompting the family-owned chain to post an apology on Facebook—and turn the mishap into a pitch for its “jumbo slices.”
For once, the person behind the “Storrowed” joke wasn’t a student stuck under an overpass.
It was Sal’s Pizza—after a truck driver reportedly missed the “CLEARANCE 10’-3” sign on Storow Drive on Saturday, wedging a Sal’s truck “good and tight.”
In a Facebook post shared earlier this week, the family-owned pizza chain didn’t try to dodge responsibility. “Hope your day is going better than ours,” Sal’s wrote. “Turns out our trucks are just as jumbo as our slices.”
Then came the apology, aimed directly at everyone affected on Storrow Drive: “We’d like to apologize to everyone on Storrow Drive for any disruption to your Saturday. Also a big thank you to the Boston police and Mass DOT for the assist,” the chain wrote.
Sal’s added that no one was hurt and that the damage—at least to the food supply—was minimal. “Neither dough, sauce, nor cheese were harmed in this debacle and have been delivered safely to your favorite Boston Sal’s locations!” the post said.
And because it’s Sal’s, the apology quickly turned into an invitation. “Come enjoy one of our jumbo slices. It would definitely make today a little bit better for us!”
The chain’s roots run deep in New England pizza lore. Sal’s was established in 1990 in Salem, New Hampshire by Salvatore Lupoli and his brother Nick. Today, the company has more than 100 locations around New England, plus one in Florida—about 130 total.
As for Storrowing itself, it has probably been happening for decades. The road was incorporated in 1951, and the pattern is familiar: students moving into the area around Labor Day, a too-tall truck, and the overpass that doesn’t flex.
Last year. the Department of Conservation and Recreation tried to warn people with a mock newscast about the dangers—citing how the would-be “victim” becomes a local meme for a few days and that neighborhood children will hear the bang and come out to watch as a state trooper patiently backs the truck out. But for Sal’s, the memo apparently didn’t land in time.
Still, the post landed the way it was meant to: with an apology, a nod to the help provided by Boston police and Mass DOT, a reassurance that the pizza made it through, and a punchline that ends where most New Englanders would expect it to—at the counter.

That clearance sign is there for a reason lol.
Why is this turning into pizza ads? Like people’s Saturday got messed up and now it’s “jumbo slices”??
I’m confused though… how does a whole truck get stuck under an overpass and still the cheese didn’t get harmed? Did they just move it around gently like it was a doll?? Also “Storrowed” sounds like a student thing but this is a driver… so which is it
I saw this on my feed and thought the overpass was gonna be blamed again. Like isn’t the road the problem, not the truck? Clearance 10’-3 seems fake because trucks everywhere drive under there all the time. Anyway at least nobody got hurt, but I bet the pizza delivery people were already late.
