Sacha Baron Cohen Reprises Ali G for ‘Ali G: Who Iz I’ Movie Trailer After 20 Years Away From the Iconic Character

Sacha Baron Cohen is back with his famous character in the trailer for Ali G: Who Iz I?
We now have an official synopsis, trailer, and poster for the film!
If you are not aware of the character’s history, Sacha first appeared as the caricature in 1998 on the Channel 4 show The 11 O’Clock Show. He then played the role on his own show, Da Ali G Show, and in the movie, Ali G Indahouse. He hasn’t portrayed the role in about 20 years, so this marks a big return!
Here’s the synopsis for Ali G: Who Iz I?
After twenty years spent “chillin’, tokin’ and bonin’”, Ali G is shocked to discover that his long-term girlfriend, Julie, is 8 months pregnant. Faced with an extra mouth to feed, he gets off his batty and heads to America to reclaim his former glory… but soon encounters adversaries who will ultimately threaten his and his child’s very existence. Morgana Robinson also stars in the comedy film.
When will Ali G: Who Iz I? be released in theaters?
This new movie also marks his directorial debut and will be released in theaters on October 23 by Amazon MGM Studios.

Wait is this the same guy as Borat or what?
I feel like Ali G is gonna be either hilarious or just super cringe. Also “8 months pregnant” like ok where’s the line between comedy and just… weird. I’ll probably watch the trailer once and then forget it exists.
So he’s been away for 20 years and now Julie is pregnant and he goes to America? That sounds like the plot of a totally different movie I saw on Netflix like last month lol. Directorial debut too, which is cool, but I don’t know if it’ll land now. People are way too sensitive about that character anyway.
October 23? That’s random timing. I’m not sure if Ali G still works in 2026 with all the cancel culture stuff, but Baron Cohen always finds a way to get under people’s skin. “Threaten his and his child’s very existence” is an insane tagline though, like is it actually serious or just another joke? Also why does it mention tokin and bonin like he’s promoting it or something.
