Sabalenka set for £120,000 jewellery amid prize row

Sabalenka £120,000 – Aryna Sabalenka is set to wear designer jewellery worth over £120,000 at the French Open, days after the world No 1 threatened a boycott over prize money and cut her press conference short as part of a protest.

When Aryna Sabalenka walks onto Court Philippe Chatrier for her French Open first-round match against Jessica Bouzas on Tuesday. she won’t just be bringing her usual intensity. She’ll be wearing a jewellery statement worth more than £100. 000 — a full display of red garnets and diamonds designed by New York jeweller Material Good — at the same tournament where she has already drawn a line in the sand over prize money.

Sabalenka. the 2025 Roland Garros finalist and world number one. is set to sparkle with a set of up to three diamond and garnet necklaces. plus matching earrings. The package totals up to 24.17 carat diamonds and 218 carats of garnets, with the overall set valued at more than £100,000. The outlet report also places the women’s world No 1’s kit at around £120. 000 when the jewellery and earring options are considered.

She will begin with practice preparations already underway, having rehearsed with two of the three necklaces. The third necklace remains an option if she wants to go with the complete set.

“I’m obsessed, and I can’t wait to wear these beauties on the court,” Sabalenka said. A Material Good spokesperson added that the look is “heavily inspired by the distinctive red clay courts” of Stade Roland Garros. with garnets chosen for their “unmistakable shades of red and saturated rusty undertones” to define her French Open 2026 jewellery style.

The selections she can wear are specific and carefully priced. The top necklace — made up of 4.75ct of diamonds and 49.16ct of garnets — is worth $36,500 (£27,000). The middle option combines 9.18ct and 72.96ct of garnets, valued at $53,000 (£39,250). Sabalenka can also add a third necklace consisting of 8.58ct of diamonds and 81.64ct of garnets, worth $46,000 (£34,000).

Her earrings match the theme and the metal: all set in 18 carat white gold. They include 1.66ct of diamonds and 14.35ct of garnets, worth $12,500 (£9,250).

But this tournament isn’t only about what Sabalenka wears. Days earlier. she cut short her press conference ahead of the start as part of a media protest. with top stars limiting press commitments to just 15 minutes. The demand behind the protest was straightforward: earning more in prize money than the 15 per cent of revenue the French Open pays out.

“As the world number one, I have to stand up and fight for lower-level players,” Sabalenka said. “It’s not about me, it’s about the players lower in the rankings who are suffering.”

On top of the jewellery, she is also set to make another statement with a see-through fiery red Nike “super suit” at Roland Garros. When she posted the outfit on Instagram, she used a line from Disney’s The Incredibles: “where is my super suit?”

The suit hasn’t been entirely new at the venue. Oksana Selekhmeteva, the world number 88, wore it for her opening-round defeat to Marta Kostyuk. Kostyuk refused to shake hands with Selekhmeteva. who switched allegiance from Russia to Spain last week. before later revealing that a Russian missile had narrowly missed her parent’s house during the latest attack on Kyiv.

“If it was 100m closer, I probably wouldn’t have a mum and sister today,” Kostyuk said.

Sabalenka’s French Open build-up now carries two kinds of visibility at once: the bright. curated details of Material Good jewellery and the far sharper spotlight of her prize-money protest. On the same tour that brings glitter to Court Philippe Chatrier. she’s also pushing for a different kind of recognition — one measured in what lower-ranked players actually receive.

As she prepares for her first-round match against Jessica Bouzas on Tuesday, the tension around the French Open’s pay structure hangs over every routine detail. The diamonds and garnets may be the spectacle, but the fight over money has become part of the storyline, too.

  1. Wait I’m confused—are they saying she cut her press conference short to protest prize money, but then she’s wearing like 120k worth of jewelry at the French Open? Maybe the prize money protest is just for attention.

  2. This sounds like a PR stunt. Like “oh no prize money” but then she’s dripping in diamonds from some NY jeweler. Also £120,000 is basically chump change to rich athletes right? Idk why people even argue about it.

  3. I don’t get why tennis players can’t just wear normal jewelry. If she’s mad about money, why show up with red garnets and diamonds like it’s a gala? And also the article keeps saying 100,000 then 120,000 like which is it, or are we counting the kit too? Seems kinda like she’s protesting one thing and paying for another, lol.
