The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision landed on the final day of Pride month, and RuPaul’s Drag Race stars didn’t waste time reacting.
Tuesday, June 30, the court upheld state laws in Idaho and West Virginia that bar transgender girls and women from school athletics, ruling that the bans do not violate the Constitution or Title IX.
Sasha Colby. who stars on RuPaul’s Drag Race. called the ruling “heartbreaking for many in our community.” In an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly. she added. “As a trans woman. I know how important it is to feel seen. valued. and accepted for who you are. Every young person deserves the chance to grow. dream. and participate without fear of being made to feel like they don’t belong.”.
Aja — a rapper who has built a career on stage and screen — focused on how the fight gets weaponized long before it reaches a courtroom. She said. “Over the last five years of my transition. I’ve realized that so much of the anti-trans rhetoric begins online. Misinformation spreads through social media until it starts influencing real-world policy, and eventually decisions like this.”.
She also pushed back on the premise driving the restrictions, saying, “The idea that a trans woman who has been on hormone therapy for years is physically identical to a cisgender man simply isn’t an accurate reflection of the science.”
Lexi Love, host of Lexi’s Dollhouse, described the ruling as emotionally difficult while saying it wasn’t surprising. “Being trans isn’t a choice or a trend; it’s simply who we are. Right now, the T in LGBTQIA+ is under the microscope, but these attacks affect our entire community,” she said. Love added that people should register to vote and exercise their voting rights. urging. “More than ever. we need to support queer spaces. show up for our communities. educate ourselves and others. and most importantly. vote.”.
Amanda Tori Meating kept her reaction short and sharp, summing it up in five words: “Girl, this is f**ked up.” She also encouraged LGBTQIA+ supporters to stay politically engaged and vote in the upcoming midterm elections.
The Supreme Court’s ruling addressed two separate legal challenges. One came from an Idaho student who won her case in lower courts after challenging the state’s ban. though she chose not to play varsity sports upon returning to school in 2025. The other involved a West Virginia middle schooler. Becky Pepper Jackson. who was barred from her school’s girls’ running team under the state law.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented from the majority opinion, writing that the decision “inflicts a hardship on those it disfavors without giving them the fair and full opportunity the Constitution requires to litigate their contentions.”
The decision also follows last year’s ruling from the same conservative majority. when the court upheld a Tennessee law barring gender-affirming care for transgender minors. Since that ruling. 25 states have criminalized or banned such treatment for minors. and some states have moved to restrict gender-affirming care for adults as well.
For Colby, Aja, Love, and Tori Meating, the takeaway wasn’t just legal—it was personal. In their own words, the ruling doesn’t only change who can compete. It changes what young people are allowed to feel as they try to belong.

So they’re mad about sports now? I just don’t get it.
This sounds like more of that “Title IX” confusion. Like if it’s allowed for everyone else why not them? But I saw somewhere it’s about fairness so… idk. Also Pride month ending and they’re still beefing online I guess.
Heartbreaking for them but I’m confused bc the ruling says it doesn’t violate Title IX? Like isn’t Title IX literally about women’s sports?? So how is banning trans girls not messing with it. My cousin said athletes have different bodies, but the court just decides the “science” and that’s it.
RuPaul celebrities should stay out of Supreme Court stuff, no offense. Next they’ll say the court is hateful bc it won’t follow their vibes. I feel bad for the kids but the whole hormone thing being “for years” isn’t the same as the actual competition either. Also ppl online already decided what to think before June 30.
