Rosie O’Donnell mocks Trump’s Strait of Hormuz map, jokes ‘if U.S. is in charge, I’m also straight’

On August 18, Rosie O’Donnell criticized President Donald Trump after he posted a map on Truth Social labeling the Strait of Hormuz as “NEW U.S. Territory.” O’Donnell responded by mocking the claim with a joke referencing her own sexuality.
O’Donnell targeted Trump’s map
While guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! for the week, O’Donnell displayed Trump’s map during her monologue and questioned the meaning of the designation. She remarked, “We also learned today that the United States could be acquiring some new land soon.”
O’Donnell continued, “Velveeto Corleone was up bright and early at 7 a.m. this morning to post an image of a map listing the Strait of Hormuz as a U.S. territory, which makes literally no sense. I’ll put it this way: If the U.S. is in charge of the strait, then I’m also straight.”
She added, “And let’s face it, I’m not,” before describing Trump’s recent actions as part of what she called “the moron-a-thon.”
U.S. has not secured passage
Trump’s post was made as the United States continued its involvement in the conflict with Iran. Despite the president labeling the waterway as U.S. territory, American forces have not guaranteed safe passage for ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s deputy foreign minister rejected Trump’s assertion, calling it a “delusion.” He warned that the United States could not take control of the waterway through a “tweet” or military action (per Independent).
O’Donnell joked about renewed fame
O’Donnell’s comments on the Strait of Hormuz were not her only remarks about Trump during the August 18 broadcast. She also joked that the president’s attention had unexpectedly put her back in the spotlight, saying, “This has been kind of a strange experience for me because all of a sudden I’m re-famous.”
She referred to Trump as “President Oompa J. Loompa” and joked that he was watching the show “from inside a catering cart,” referencing his reported escape method after an assassination threat from Iran. She added, “You know, I couldn’t have done it without you, sweetie. You brought me back, just like you did with fascism and the measles.”
O’Donnell warned Trump
O’Donnell began her week-long guest hosting on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on August 17, using her opening monologue to warn Trump that her return would bring further criticism of his administration.
She noted, “They said you can’t come home again, but here I am. And if you thought the president hated Jimmy Kimmel Live! when it was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, buckle up, people. Buckle up!”
