Rosie O’Donnell Explains Why Filming ‘And Just Like That’ Intimate Scene with Cynthia Nixon was ‘Horrifying’

Rosie O’Donnell is looking back at her time on And Just Like That.

Back in 2025, the 64-year-old comedian had a guest cameo on the Sex and the City spinoff series, playing Mary, a former nun who has her first sexual experience with Miranda Hobbs, played by her longtime friend Cynthia Nixon.

While appearing on the new episode of Amy Poehler‘s Good Hang podcast, Rosie admitted that filming the intimate scene with Cynthia, 60, was “horrifying.”

“First of all, I love [Cynthia]… and have so much respect for her,” Rosie began, “The kissing wasn’t hard, but the laying in bed and the wanting us to act like we had just done it… I was like ‘Uhh.’ But I’m a little immature when it comes to that.”

Rosie explained that she didn’t know much about her what her guest appearance on the show would entail when Cynthia first told her that showrunnner Michael Patrick King had written a scene for them to do together and asked if she’d would come on the show.

“I said, ‘Of course, I’ll do it with you,’ you know,” Rosie recalled. “And then I read it, and I’m, like, in bed with just the sheets. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God.’”

Rosie said that she was “nervous with Cynthia” because the only other sex scene she had filmed in her career was with the late Julian McMahon during her stint on Nip/Tuck back in the early 2000s.

“Then Michael said, ‘You know, you guys can be a little bit more…,’ and I’m thinking, ‘I can’t, really,’” she said.

“Also, it’s weird to kiss your friends,” Amy pointed out, to which Rosie responded, “Yes, exactly.”

Last year, the And Just Like That creators teased that Carrie Bradshaw could return after the show’s cancellation.
