Ron Perlman is stepping onto the “Game Changer” stage for a guest appearance that the show’s players aren’t being told about in advance.
Perlman will appear in Episode 3 of Dropout’s ongoing eighth season, which will debut tonight at 7 p.m. ET. The season runs as 10 episodes released biweekly, setting up a paced rollout where the surprise arrives midstream—Episode 3.
Exact details of Perlman’s appearance are being kept under wraps, but the description is clear: it’s a total surprise for players Raphael Chestang, Lily Du, Katie Marovitch, Grant O’Brien, Rekha Shankar and Siobhan Thompson.
Perlman. long known to television audiences for his commanding screen presence. has credits spanning acclaimed series such as “Sons of Anarchy. ” “Beauty and the Beast. ” and “Hand of God.” He is currently appearing in the Apple TV adaptation of “Cape Fear. ” with other recent TV spots including “Poker Face. ” “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” and “Fallout.”.
His film work also traces back to longtime collaborations with Guillermo del Toro, including starring roles in the first two “Hellboy” films, as well as “Nightmare Alley” and “Pacific Rim.”
No one is saying what Perlman will do on the show—only that he’s arriving as the kind of twist “Game Changer” is built around.
The casting brings Perlman into a Season 8 lineup anchored by Brennan Lee Mulligan, Vic Michaelis, Lou Wilson and Jacob Wysocki. “Game Changer” is hosted by Dropout CEO Sam Reich, who also executive produces along with David Kerns. The timing is also notable beyond the guest star. “Game Changer” and fellow Dropout show “Very Important People” recently submitted for Emmys consideration in multiple categories, including outstanding game show for “Game Changer.”
Reich has framed Dropout’s mission around a subscription audience that isn’t casual. Speaking during a late May FYC conversation at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles. Reich said: “Streamers are trying to be everything to anyone. We’re trying to be something for someone. When you’re paying seven bucks a month for Dropout, you’re probably hardcore about us.”.
For tonight’s debut, fans get the full Season 8 start at 7 p.m. ET—and Episode 3 later in the biweekly rollout will carry Perlman’s mystery moment for Chestang, Du, Marovitch, O’Brien, Shankar and Thompson.
