Robertson joins Tottenham on free transfer from Liverpool

Tottenham have signed Scotland World Cup captain Andy Robertson as a free agent after nine years at Liverpool, with Roberto De Zerbi praising his winning pedigree and leadership.
LONDON — Tottenham moved quickly on Friday, announcing the signing of Liverpool defender Andy Robertson.
The Scotland left-back, 32, was out of contract and arrived at Spurs as a free agent after nine years at Anfield. For Tottenham, it’s a statement of intent: a player who has already lived through the highest-pressure seasons in English and European football.
“We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club,” Tottenham’s sporting director Johan Lange said. “First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back, one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will improve our squad.”
Lange added that Robertson’s value goes beyond his position. “In addition, his quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for, and won, major honours.”
Tottenham did not reveal how long the contract will run, but the appointment from De Zerbi was clear. The coach described Robertson as a long-term winner ready to bring that experience into his squad.
“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period,” Roberto De Zerbi said.
That winning record is hard to miss. During nine years at Liverpool, Robertson collected a full set of trophies, including two Premier League titles and the Champions League. He also won the FA Cup, two English League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup.
It also places him in a rare spotlight at a time when national duty is looming. Robertson will captain Scotland at this month’s World Cup, before turning his attention fully to Tottenham.
De Zerbi made the transition personal as well. saying. “Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities. experience. leadership and mentality to our team. I can’t wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.”.

Free transfer for a World Cup captain? Tottenham finally doing something right.
Wait so he left Liverpool for free and Spurs is like “best of all time”?? I feel like there’s gotta be some injury thing they’re not saying. Also World Cup captain already means he’s gonna start every match or what?
I swear De Zerbi doesn’t even play the style that Robertson fits. Like left back is left back but the whole press thing… idk. Still, Champions League trophies is cool. I just hope he doesn’t get cooked defensively when Tottenham inevitably has that 20-minute collapse.
Robertson joining Tottenham is honestly wild like Liverpool just let him walk? And they say “winning pedigree” but maybe he’s just chasing more playing time. Also why does it matter who De Zerbi admired?? Spurs still gonna bottle it in April anyway. I’m confused about the contract length too, like is he just there for a year or what.
