Ricky Schroder Faces Backlash After Bringing Politics Into His Dolly Parton Tribute

Ricky Schroder is getting backlash over his Dolly Parton tribute.

The 56-year-old actor worked with the late music legend on her 2015 movie, Dolly Parton’s Coat of Many Colors, where he played her father, Robert Lee Patton, alongside Jennifer Nettles as her mother, Avie Lee Parton.

Following news of her passing on Tuesday (August 25), Ricky took to social media to pay tribute to Dolly, but his post drew backlash after her made his post political.

“I didnt agree with her advocating for Transgender & Covid Vaccine support…but Loved her anyway. Thank you for choosing me Dolly to be your Movie Daddy,” Ricky shared on Threads, with a photo of them posing together.

Many took to the replies/comments to express their disgust for his post, including several celebrities.

Katie Couric simply wrote, “Ick.”

Brandon Frankel, who works in the industry and is married to Gabourey Sidibe, commented, “Way to ruin your tribute a–hole.”

Author and comedian Emma Kennedy shared, “WTF is wrong with you?”

Comedian Murray Hill commented, “guess you didn’t listen to her thoughts on not judging people and allowing people to be who they are. how lame to be divisive and hate fueled in same breadth as someone who has done so much and is filled with love and empathy. no love like christian hate.”

Actress Nina Siemaszko wrote, “Bless your heart and your poor manners.”

Since it was announced by her family that she had passed away, it was later revealed by her reps that Dolly died after a brief battle with cancer.
