Richarlison insists he won’t allow ‘other people’ to decide his future as he posts angry statement on social media amid Everton and Tottenham transfer saga

Tottenham striker Richarlison has cast doubt on a potential move to Everton after posting a cryptic message on social media insisting he will not let anyone else decide his future. 

Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi told the media after Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle that Richarlison, 29, had told him that he wanted to leave the club.

Daily Mail Sport then reported on Sunday that Everton had accepted a £60m offer from Tottenham for Iliman Ndiaye, with Richarlison set to go the other way for a fee of £35m plus add-ons.

This certainly seemed to be the solution Richarlison favoured, with the Brazilian referring to it on Instagram as the ‘club of my heart’, while Everton have now agreed a £65m deal with Man City for Ndiaye.

With just over 24 hours to go until the transfer deadline, Richarlison’s post, written in Portuguese, said: ‘After everything I’ve been through in the last few years, I’ve decided that no one will ever again decide my future for me.

I’ve been through a lot of bad things during this time, and almost all of them happened because of decisions made by other people. Pressure, threats, retaliation – none of that scares me. I’ve been through worse… believe me!

‘I have always made it clear, on every occasion, that any move to another club would also have to be good for the club. If it wasn’t, I would never accept it… just as I didn’t accept it when everything here was falling apart and they needed me. I stayed and gave my all.

‘So I hope they treat my situation with the same respect that I have always had for Spurs and for all the people who worked with me during this period. Just don’t try to decide for me.

‘If they reach an agreement between Spurs and Everton, I will return to my club of heart. My intention was indeed to return to the place where I was very happy.

‘Only that the negotiations were the way people wanted and it will not be that way anymore. Despite this turmoil I have a contract with Spurs and I will be at the club’s disposal.’

On Saturday, De Zerbi revealed that Richarlison was one of a trio of players who had communicated that they wanted to leave the club.

De Zerbi, who left Richarlison out of his matchday squad for the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle, said: ‘Richarlison, he said too many times that he wanted to leave. Danso came to me two days ago and said he wanted to leave. Sarr the same.

‘I love these players and these are great guys. I have very good relationships. But if they want to leave they have to bring the economic solution to the club and they can go, and we’ll find other players.’

On Sunday Richarlison then went on to share a photograph of a wall with red and black text on it reading, in translation: ‘I am the villain of many poorly told stories.’

Richarlison has scored 32 goals in 134 matches for Tottenham since signing from Everton in a £60m deal in 2022.

The Brazilian previously scored 53 goals in 152 games for the Toffees.
