Revolution names Chris Tierney GM after Onalfo shift

Revolution names – The New England Revolution announced a front-office shakeup on Monday, promoting Chris Tierney to general manager and chief soccer officer while Curt Onalfo moves to senior vice president of soccer operations with a heavier development focus.

When the Revolution’s 2026 season resumed its rhythms, one of the biggest changes didn’t involve the field at all. On Monday. the club announced a front office reshuffle that elevates Chris Tierney into two top leadership roles and shifts Curt Onalfo into a post designed to keep the club’s development machine running at full speed.

Tierney, a Massachusetts native and former Revolution left back, is moving from assistant sporting director to general manager and chief soccer officer. Onalfo—previously the club’s sporting director—will become senior vice president of soccer operations.

Both executives will report to club president Brian Bilello.

In Onalfo’s new role, the club said his larger focus will land on the team’s developmental side. That includes the Pro Pathway, the club academy, and Revolution II.

Tierney’s elevation comes with him taking a more central position in running the first team. The club notes that while he has been involved in decision-making for several years, his new titles formalize an even bigger role.

Tierney has been in the front office since 2019. He played in Major League Soccer for the Revolution through his entire MLS career from 2008 to 2018, then moved into club operations later. He became assistant sporting director in 2024.

Onalfo framed the change as a way to deepen the club’s focus while leveraging Tierney’s ties to the organization. “The Revolution are fortunate to have a club legend of his character. intelligence. and leadership helping shape the team’s future. ” Onalfo said. He added that the shift in his own job will allow him to focus more heavily on developing talent.

Tierney described the promotion as both an honor and a responsibility. pointing to years of involvement on both the playing and operations sides. Speaking through a news release. Tierney said. “This opportunity is a great honor and an even bigger responsibility. and as a lifelong member of this club. it is one that I take seriously. I’m grateful to Robert and Jonathan Kraft. Brian. and Curt for their trust and guidance over the years. and to all the Revolution fans for their support over the years. ” before adding. “After 11 years as a player and now seven years in the front office. I still enjoy coming to work every day with the singular goal of making my hometown club better and helping us compete for trophies on a consistent basis.”.

The structural logic of the move is hard to miss: Tierney’s new titles put him closer to the first-team decisions. while Onalfo’s senior post keeps development—Pro Pathway. the academy. and Revolution II—front and center. The two assignments also mirror the careers they build on: Tierney’s full MLS run in a Revolution uniform. and Onalfo’s work since arriving in New England in 2019.

Onalfo joined the Revolution in 2019 as the team’s technical director and helped establish Revs II that same year. The club said he has overseen expansion in both its capacity to develop younger players and the quality of that development. It pointed to Esmir Bajraktarevic as an example of academy growth that has played out on the World Cup stage.

For now, the Revolution’s on-field calendar is still in flux. The club said its 2026 season is currently paused during the World Cup, with play set to resume on July 22 at Gillette Stadium against Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m.
