Como are confident they will receive the green light from UEFA to host Champions League matches at their Giuseppe Sinigaglia Stadium following three months of major renovation.
Cesc Fabregas guided Como into the Champions League for the first time in their history last season via a fourth-placed finish in Serie A.
But off the pitch the club’s infrastructure was not up to UEFA’s required standard for the Champions League and Sassuolo’s stadium had been mooted as a potential alternative to host games in Europe’s premier club competition.
Como have spent the past three months overhauling facilities at Sinigaglia and Daily Mail Sport understands UEFA officials are close to approving the stadium’s hosting rights this season, with Manchester United among those ready to make the trip.
The Serie A side host Michael Carrick’s United side in the league phase, as well as welcoming European champions Paris Saint-Germain, as well as RB Leipzig and AEK Athens.
Extensive work began on Como’s stadium as soon as the final whistle blew after their last home game of the 2025-26 season given the race against time ahead of them.

One stand – which was initially built as a temporary stand ahead of the 2002-03 season – behind the goal was totally demolished as it did not meet UEFA standards. A new concrete stand with solid foundations is now in its place.
A new pitch has been laid and extended by two-and-a-half metres, while the players’ tunnel, as well as the substitutes’ benches have been relocated.
Significant work has been undertaken to improve dressing rooms as well as media facilities, too, with a new mixed zone, TV studio and press room.
UEFA require significant space for television broadcasters and media facilities while Como have satisfied the need to add an additional 150 parking spaces by teaming up with a local college.
Earlier this week, local authorities and the fire department inspected the improvement works and ratified it from a safety point of view, a key step in their hopes of hosting Champions League matches at their home.
Now the club are waiting to get confirmation from UEFA as they prepare to welcome Manchester United and PSG to their home on the shores of Lake Como.
‘It’s a surreal experience. We were in Serie D just seven years ago; now we’re in Serie A and in the Champions League,’ Como President Mirwan. Suwarso told Sky Sport Italia.
‘We can’t believe it. For us, it’s very important just to be here. We think day by day. We’ll try our best and enjoy the moment.
‘We can only do our best; results will say the rest. The most important thing for us is to enjoy.
‘For as much as we would like to say we’d like to experience it again, we must not take it for granted; perhaps tomorrow we won’t be here.’
