The 2016 first overall pick is signing a one-year, $3.5-million contract with the Sacramento Kings, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Friday.
Simmons, a three-time all-star, did not play in the league last season.
The oft-maligned 30-year-old spent the first four seasons of his career with the Philadelphia 76ers, battling injuries and shooting woes as he attempted to live up to his status as the No. 1 pick.
Alongside Joel Embiid, Simmons flashed promise, but the duo was ultimately unable to deliver on its potential, failing to reach the conference final.
Simmons was eventually dealt to the Brooklyn Nets in February 2022 in a trade that brought James Harden back to Philadelphia.
Alongside his three all-star appearances, the Australian was the 2018 rookie of the year, a 2020 third-team all-NBAer and a two-time all-defensive first-team member.
In 383 career games, he has averaged 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.2 assists per contest while shooting 55.8 per cent from the field, 13.9 per cent from three-point range and 59.2 per cent from the free-throw line.
