Renault EV Lego model petition targets 10,000 votes
A petition on Lego Ideas is pushing to make Dave Collins’ Renault 5 Turbo 3E EV Lego set an official release, with 10,000 supporters needed.
A Renault EV Lego project has suddenly become a numbers game, with its creators counting down to a clear target on Lego Ideas.
British engineer and designer Dave Collins has built a prototype of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E using about 1,200 Lego pieces, and Misryoum reports that a campaign is underway to turn it into an official set.. The build is based on the Renault 5 Turbo 3E, an electric reinterpretation of the French brand’s city hatchback that was unveiled in 2022.. Collins has positioned the project for fans who want something between imagination and engineering, presented in Lego form.
The push matters because Lego Ideas is one of the few routes where fan-made concepts can move from a private hobby to a mass-market product. The votes act like a public mandate, telling the company that a set has real demand beyond a single creator’s workshop.
To get the Lego team to review the concept as an official release, the project needs to reach 10,000 supporters on the Lego Ideas webpage. Since the campaign started on April 16, Misryoum notes that more than 5,000 signatures have been collected, leaving just over halfway to the threshold.
Renault has also encouraged supporters to back the project, according to a media statement reported by Misryoum on April 29. If the Renault EV Lego model reaches the required level of interest, it would join other builds that have previously made it to production through the same platform.
Meanwhile, the Renault-inspired effort sits alongside a broader wave of car-to-toy ambition. Misryoum’s coverage shows that Lego Ideas has a track record of projects being developed into real products when enough people rally behind an idea, which is precisely why timing and momentum are crucial.
For context, other Lego Ideas concepts that have reached production include a DeLorean Time Machine tied to the Back To The Future film trilogy from the 1980s and the Caterham Super Seven sports car. Supporters of the Renault 5 Turbo 3E Lego build can add their names through the Lego Ideas listing.
In the same multi-vehicle moment, Misryoum also highlights how auto makers continue to bring tech and design themes into the spotlight, including BYD’s upcoming Fangchengbao Formula X, Kia’s Vision Meta Turismo concept, and Volvo’s AI-integrated electric EX60 entering production.. While these are separate stories, they underline the same point: audiences are increasingly looking for experiences that go beyond the road.
Ultimately, the Renault EV Lego model petition is less about a single set and more about whether fans can shape what gets built, shipped, and sold. If it clears the 10,000-supporter bar, Misryoum expects the result to be watched closely by both automotive enthusiasts and Lego fans alike.
