By the time the next version of ChatGPT reaches people’s home screens, it may not feel like “just a chatbot” anymore.

OpenAI is reportedly preparing a major overhaul of the product—part of what has been described as a “super app”—that’s expected to roll out in the coming weeks. The first changes are said to appear through updates to the website and mobile apps, before the broader experience fully arrives.

The redesigned ChatGPT is meant to encourage users to do more than chat. It would steer users toward coding tools. image generation. and applications built by partners. with Canva and Booking.com specifically mentioned as examples. The shift is important for how OpenAI positions the product: the company has an enormous base of users coming from the free chatbot experience. but this update is being framed as a push to attract enterprise customers.

The financial motive is clear. The overhaul is expected to emphasize performing multiple tasks rather than simply answering questions. That approach. the reporting says. is designed to generate more revenue through larger businesses that would deploy OpenAI’s new ChatGPT across their workforce. It’s also tied to OpenAI’s potential plans to go public as soon as September of this year.

There’s also a competitive edge in the background. OpenAI is likely trying to stay competitive with Anthropic, which has similarly announced its intention to launch an initial public offering.

This isn’t the first time OpenAI’s “super app” idea has surfaced. Back in March. the Wall Street Journal and CNBC reported that OpenAI was working on a super app that would unify its ChatGPT. browser. and Codex app for desktop. And earlier. OpenAI introduced an app directory within ChatGPT that would automatically connect to commonly used third-party apps like Spotify or Dropbox.

Taken together, the sequence points to a single direction: ChatGPT moving from a conversation tool into a platform enterprises can justify paying for. The timing—weeks for a rollout, September for an IPO possibility—adds pressure to make the transition feel seamless when it finally lands.

  1. Enterprise customers?? That’s funny because I thought this was for regular people. If it becomes a “super app” then they’re gonna start paywalling everything, watch.

  2. Wait, Canva and Booking.com are inside ChatGPT now or something? I read that part like 3 times and still don’t get it. Is it gonna book hotels for you or just make pictures? Seems like a lot of promises for weeks.

  3. Companies gonna use it for work = more revenue = IPO by September, got it. But isn’t this just them copying what Google does with everything in one place? Also Anthropic IPO? sounds like the whole tech world is just racing to sell the same idea with different logos.
