The Boston Red Sox already know which three starting pitchers they will hand the ball to when their road trip begins in Miami. Ranger Suárez, Payton Tolle and Sonny Gray will start Boston’s three games against the Marlins, according to MLB.com’s Ian Browne. The series will begin Monday night at loanDepot park after the Red Sox conclude their weekend set against the San Francisco Giants at Fenway Park.
It is a formidable trio for manager Chad Tracy to carry into the next leg of Boston’s playoff push. Suárez has provided a steady veteran presence, Tolle has emerged as one of baseball’s most exciting young starters and Gray remains firmly in the American League Cy Young Award conversation.
Boston entered Sunday’s series finale against San Francisco with a 70-59 record after winning the first two games. The Red Sox will attempt to carry that momentum into Miami with three of their best available starters lined up.
Ranger Suárez Gets The Series Opener
Suárez will start Monday’s opener, which is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. ET. The left-hander owns a 5-3 record with a 3.41 ERA, 113 strikeouts and a 1.18 WHIP over 113 1/3 innings this season. He most recently earned a victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks despite allowing four runs over 5 1/3 innings.

Suárez is scheduled to oppose Sandy Alcantara, giving the series an intriguing pitching matchup Tuesday. Alcantara entered the weekend with a 13-8 record, 3.46 ERA and 131 strikeouts. Boston signed Suárez to a five-year deal during the offseason with starts like this in mind. Tracy will look to the veteran to set the tone as the Red Sox move from an emotional home series into another important road test.
Payton Tolle Draws Miami’s Ace
Tolle is scheduled to pitch Tuesday night, also at 6:40 p.m. ET. The 23-year-old left-hander has rapidly become one of Boston’s most trusted starters. Tolle is 8-6 with a 3.08 ERA and 134 strikeouts across 120 innings.
His recent work has been even more impressive. Tolle has gone 3-0 with a 2.95 ERA and 54 strikeouts over his last seven starts. His emergence has given the Red Sox much more than rotation depth. He has developed into a pitcher Tracy can trust in meaningful late-season games.
Tolle’s matchup against Alcantara could be the marquee game of the series. It also will provide another test for a young pitcher who increasingly looks comfortable under pressure.

Sonny Gray Gives Red Sox A Strong Finish
Gray will close the series Wednesday at 6:40 p.m. ET. The veteran right-hander improved to 16-3 with a 2.79 ERA after helping Boston defeat San Francisco 6-4 on Friday. Gray allowed four runs over six innings, including Rafael Devers’ home run in his return to Fenway Park, but he kept the Red Sox ahead and earned another victory.
Miami is expected to counter with right-hander Ryan Gusto in the finale.
Gray’s presence gives Boston an imposing finish to the series. If the Red Sox need to win Wednesday to claim the set or avoid a disappointing result, Tracy will have one of the American League’s most successful pitchers on the mound. Boston’s offense has produced some dramatic moments lately, including Saturday’s three-run ninth-inning comeback against San Francisco. The rotation alignment in Miami could reduce the need for more late-game heroics.
