Red Sox rumors: Boston prepared to do obvious with Chad Tracy after insane turnaround
The Red Sox front office is happy with Chad Tracy. Tracy has managed Boston into a playoff team, as the season nears an end.
The Boston Red Sox are seeing a resurgence this season, under interim manager Chad Tracy. Boston is closing in on naming Tracy as a full-time replacement to Alex Cora, per USA Today.
“Chad Tracy may be the interim Boton Red Sox manager, but that job could become permanent once the season ends. He took a team that was going nowhere and morphed into a powerful playoff contender that will be a force in October,” Major League Baseball insider and columnist Bob Nightengale wrote.
Tracy is also expected to get attention from other clubs looking for managers. At one point this summer, Tracy managed Boston to a stunning 15-game win streak.
“The Red Sox also realize that if they wait too long before extending him, he’ll be the hottest managerial free agent – behind only his predecessor, Alex Cora,” Nightengale added.
Boston is currently in a key four-game series against the New York Yankees. The two clubs are battling for position in the American League East. The Red Sox are currently third in the division, with a 74-62 record.
That is a remarkable turnaround from the beginning of the year. Under Cora, the Red Sox were floundering with a losing record. Boston seemed destined to finish last in the AL East and miss the MLB Playoffs.
Tracy is hoping to pick up as many wins as possible before the regular season ends. He wants the Red Sox to host a playoff series.
“That’s important, I won’t shy away from that,” Tracy said during this series with the Yankees, per The Athletic. “I think if you get a short series, you’re able to play in your home ballpark, that stuff matters for sure.”
Boston and New York play Sunday. Roman Anthony and Trevor Story are expected to re-join the Red Sox, after missing months due to injuries.
