Joe Fagnano has made the most of his opportunities throughout the Baltimore Ravens’ preseason, and the rookie quarterback is crediting one of the NFL’s biggest stars for helping him along the way. Fagnano has spent his first NFL training camp working alongside Lamar Jackson, giving the rookie an opportunity to learn from a two-time MVP on a daily basis.
For a young quarterback still adjusting to the professional game, those interactions have become an important part of his development. Speaking to reporters, Fagnano opened up about what it has been like sharing a quarterback room and practice field with Jackson.
“It’s been great. He’s a special player, special human being,” Fagnano said. “He’s kind of helped me out a ton. He’s been very supportive. After plays, he’s talking about what he sees. Even on his plays, he comes back and talks to me.”

Jackson’s willingness to share what he sees on the field has given Fagnano a valuable perspective that goes beyond simply watching one of the league’s best quarterbacks operate. The rookie has tried to absorb as much as possible from those conversations.
“So it’s been great. It’s something that I’m very appreciative of and just trying to be a sponge and take it all in,” Fagnano added.
The Ravens signed Fagnano as an undrafted rookie out of UConn, and he quickly emerged as one of the more intriguing players competing for a roster spot. He entered the preseason battling for the No. 3 quarterback role behind Jackson and veteran backup Tyler Huntley.
Fagnano’s play has only strengthened his case. He impressed in Baltimore’s preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, completing 22 of 28 passes for 224 yards and a touchdown. He followed that performance by going 15-of-20 for 123 yards and a touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings.
The rookie continued his strong preseason in Baltimore’s finale, helping the Ravens complete an unbeaten exhibition slate with a dominant win over the Washington Commanders.
Of course, preseason success does not guarantee a spot on the final roster. But Fagnano has put himself firmly in the conversation with his performances and has had a rare resource available throughout the process.
For now, whether the rookie earns a place on Baltimore’s active roster or continues his development elsewhere within the organization, the lessons he has picked up from the Ravens’ franchise quarterback could prove valuable as his NFL career begins.
