Vince Carter will no longer be the lone Raptor in the rafters at Scotiabank Arena.
The Toronto Raptors announced Thursday that they will retire Kyle Lowry’s No. 7 jersey on Jan. 10 when they take on his hometown Philadelphia 76ers.
“I’ve been looking forward to this moment for years. I always said that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” Lowry said in a statement put out by the team.
“We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.”
Toronto will also celebrate Lowry with special events at home games against Minnesota on Jan. 7 and Utah on Jan. 8.
Lowry, 40, hung up his shoes after the 2025-26 season when he played for the 76ers and signed a one-day contract to retire with the Raptors on July 7.
He is considered by many to be the greatest Raptor of all time after spending nine seasons with the club and helping lead it to its first-ever NBA title in 2019.
Known for his toughness and all-around play, Lowry made six all-star teams in his career — all as a Raptor — and was named a third-team all-NBA player after the 2015-16 season. He ends his career with per-game averages of 13.8 points, six assists and four rebounds.
Lowry stands as the Raptors’ franchise leader in assists, steals, three-pointers and triple-doubles while ranking second in games played and points. He also leads the franchise in playoff points and games, punctuated by his memorable performance in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals, when he scored the first 11 Raptors points of the contest en route to victory.
