The moment the plane moves, it stops looking like a toy.
Ramy RC has built what he calls the world’s biggest RC A380. and the numbers alone make it hard to treat it as a simple hobby project. At 29 ft (8.83 m) long. with a 32 foot (9.75 m) wingspan. and weighing 800 lb (362 kg). the 1/8 scale jumbo jet is built for a different category of RC flying—one where size. materials. and fabrication quality matter as much as flight.
The fuselage is engineered from CNC-cut EPS foam laid up with fiberglass on the outside and carbon fiber inside. The wings bring their own mix, combining carbon, aluminum, foam, and wood to handle the aerodynamic loads that come with something that large.
Then there are the details. Instead of painting the windows. each one is an actual hole in the plane with a 3D printed window frame and acrylic window. In the video shared alongside the build. one of the windows can be seen falling out of the plane—an oddly vivid reminder that the craftsmanship isn’t just decorative.
Even the landing gear gets a nod from aviation fans. An Airbus mechanic writing in the comments says the landing gear door order of operations is identical to the real thing.
If the name Ramy sounds familiar, it is. The builder has previously built an A380. and this latest version continues that same obsession with recreating a very specific aircraft. The full-size A380. like the 747. is no longer in production—but Ramy’s earlier note remains part of the lore: the planes “can run on cooking oil while they’re still flying.”.
At 29 feet long, this RC A380 doesn’t just chase scale. It chases the feeling of operating something real—right down to the way its windows are cut, framed, and left vulnerable to the realities of flight.
