Ramsay says dog-drama ‘overexaggerated’ after TikTok

Chef Gordon Ramsay pushed back on online outrage over an alleged dog inside his London restaurant, calling the reaction “overexaggerated” and saying CCTV shows the dog didn’t pee or poop. He also clarified dogs are only allowed on the restaurant’s outdoor terr
A viral TikTok video set off a familiar kind of internet firestorm: disgust, instant judgment, and a sudden spotlight on restaurant hygiene.
In the clip, a dog is shown standing near diners at Ramsay’s Street Pizza in London on what the video depicts as a pee pad. The video spread quickly across TikTok, with many users criticizing the situation as unsanitary and questioning whether pets should be allowed inside restaurants at all.
“ This is foul,” one commenter wrote. Another said, “I’m a dog owner and this is still a massive no.”
For a lot of viewers, the anger wasn’t only about the dog. It was about disbelief. Some people questioned whether the incident even happened at one of Ramsay’s restaurants, pointing to his reputation for strict hygiene.
“I would’ve walked out immediately,” one commenter wrote. Others wondered whether the incident violated health regulations. “How is that not a health code violation?” another user asked.
Ramsay eventually addressed the controversy directly in comments to TMZ, saying the situation had been “overexaggerated.” He pointed to what he said was evidence on camera.
“What we have seen is the CCTV footage, and under no circumstances did that dog do pee or poop,” Ramsay said.
He also made a key clarification that shifted the argument from “dogs inside” to “dogs where.” Ramsay said dogs are only permitted on the restaurant’s outdoor terrace.
That distinction didn’t end the debate, but it reframed it for etiquette experts watching the backlash unfold. Diane Gottsman, founder of the Protocol School of Texas in San Antonio, told Fox News Digital that etiquette depends on the type of restaurant and whether it’s considered pet friendly.
“If a pet can be taken outside, that would be the best choice,” Gottsman said. She also acknowledged that patrons could feel uncomfortable, but she argued the reaction should land on the person who made the choice to bring the animal indoors.
“Don’t take it out on Gordon Ramsay. Take it out on the [dog] owner who allowed it,” Gottsman said. She suggested most restaurants—especially fine-dining spots—typically wouldn’t permit pets or pee pads indoors.
Her comparison was blunt: “Similar to bringing a tired, young child who is crying, there is a time [and] place to bring your pets.”
Even after Ramsay’s response, the comment sections stayed divided. Some defended the restaurant and argued the backlash was excessive.
“Don’t take it out on Gordon Ramsay,” one user wrote. “Take it out on the [dog] owner who allowed it.” Another commenter added, “Y’all are taking this way too seriously.”
Others said the issue wasn’t really about the dog itself—it was about owners bringing pets into indoor dining spaces where most people expect certain standards.
The controversy also widened into a broader online discussion about hygiene standards, restaurant etiquette, and where pets should be allowed in public spaces. Fox News Digital reached out to Ramsay’s representatives for additional comment.

So the dog didnt poop… but why was it even there tho?
I don’t buy it. TikTok is usually fake but also people don’t make this stuff up for no reason. If it was on a pee pad doesn’t that still mean it was peeing or about to?
CCTV “didn’t” show anything and suddenly everyone’s supposed to relax? CCTV can miss stuff. Also the headline makes it sound like the dog was inside, so he kinda fed the fire by even having it near diners.
I’m confused… outdoor terrace vs inside restaurant is like, what, same building? People eat there either way. Health code violations are serious and I feel like TMZ just wants a clip. Also Ramsay saying it’s overexaggerated like we didn’t all already see the “foul” part smh.
