Fans were let down by Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett after his terrible game against the San Francisco 49ers.
It will likely be an awkward trip back to the United States for Myles Garrett and the Los Angeles Rams after getting embarrassed by the San Francisco 49ers, 27-7, at Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia on Friday.
Garrett made his much-awaited debut for the Rams. He, however, would probably wish for a do-over if he could.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year had zero pressures, zero sacks, zero quarterback hits, and zero tackles in over 27 pass-rush snaps. According to Yahoo! Sports’ Hayden Winks, Garrett matched a career-low with his unproductive stint.
“Tonight was Myles Garrett’s first game without a pressure since 2018 Week 10, per PFF (Pro Football Focus),” wrote Winks on X.
The 30-year-0ld defensive end was completely neutralized by the quick-pass game plan by the 49ers. For only the fourth time in his legendary career, Garrett finished a game without sacks, tackles, and quarterback hits.
It also might have been as simple as jitters for the seven-time All-Pro, especially with the high expectations of fans as soon as the Rams acquired him in a trade with the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jared Verse and draft capital.
He refused the quick turnaround of the Rams in Melbourne for his poor performance against the 49ers. Garrett, however, hinted that his physical condition was not at 100%. He was bothered by knee tendinitis in training camp.
“This was the worst version of myself,” said Garrett, noting that he needs to “get healthy” in Week 2.
He will look to bounce back against the New York Giants on September 21.
