Prosecutors say the woman accused of killing her three children with exercise bands displayed “extreme atrocity and cruelty,” and in a new motion obtained by CourtTV, they’re asking that the 911 phone call made by her husband, Patrick, be included in their case for her upcoming trial.
Clancy is accused of killing her 3 young children—Cora, Dawson, and Callan—by strangling them with exercise bands on January 24, 2023. Prosecutors say Patrick called 911 when he found Clancy had thrown herself out the second story window of their Duxbury home. While still on the phone with the operator. he found the children in the basement. each prosecutors say had an exercise band around their necks.
The filing describes the moment as chaos rather than distance. It says Patrick began yelling on the call, “She killed the kids!”
Prosecutors also argue about what the evidence means. They claim Patrick had removed the bands from his kids’ necks by the time responders reached the basement. and they point to “the fact that Mr. Clancy was able to remove each band so quickly” as support for their theory that this was not a simple placement followed by an exit. They instead argue the evidence shows “deliberateness” and “extreme atrocity and cruelty. ” asserting that Clancy “manually pulled the bands around each child’s neck until they died.”.
The courtroom dispute centers on that central question—what her actions looked like in real time. The sequence prosecutors describe ties the alleged strangulation to active, manual involvement, while the defense is preparing a different explanation.
Clancy’s lawyer says she is not denying that she killed her kids, but plans to argue that she was overmedicated and suffering from severe postpartum psychosis, according to The New York Post. Clancy and Patrick have both filed lawsuits against the doctors who were treating her.
Cora was 5, Dawson was 3, and Callan was 8 months old.
Clancy’s trial is scheduled for July 20. Her attorney has previously said she plans to ask the jury to find Clancy guilty by reason of insanity.

Wait so they’re saying she removed the bands? Or the husband did? The article makes it sound like he beat responders to it which is wild. If she was postpartum psychosis then why would they even charge it like that…
I don’t even know what to believe anymore tbh. They keep saying “extreme atrocity and cruelty” like that tells the whole story by itself. Also postpartum psychosis can make people do things they don’t understand, but prosecutors are still acting like it was deliberate in real time. This is gonna be one of those trials where everyone already picked a side before court.
So the husband called 911 while the kids were in the basement and he supposedly removed the bands fast?? That’s kinda the part I’m stuck on. Like if he took them off, how do they know what happened exactly, ya know? And the mental health argument is confusing too because she’s charged either way. I’m just hoping the jury hears both sides and not just the loudest 911 moment.
